Well, after the blowout loss to the Bengals, I think Frazier will definitely lose his job, along with the rest of the coaching staff. I'm seeing people already post about the offseason, so I thought I would put together some thoughts.
1. What are we going to do at QB? To me, this can actually become very a very interesting subject once we get more into the offseason. Many people believe that we will be drafting our next QB early in the draft. One player that can change that is Josh Freeman. I know Spielman and the Vikes were very interested in Freeman in the 09 draft. Spielman signed him after Tampa releases him and he gets 1 start where he stinks it up. I don't think that Freeman will get a large contract from any team in FA, so maybe Spielman signs him to a "1 year prove it" deal and wait until 2015 to draft a QB.
2. Free agency- We all know Rick likes to build through the draft, but after how horrible the team was this year, especially on defense, he his going to have to dip into the bank. I believe we will have around $30M in cap next season, because Allen and Kevin Williams will be off the books ($22M in Cap combine this yr.). There are some players they may end up resigning like Griffen, Cook(backup role if they do), and Simpson. It will also be interesting to see if we will be able to sign any big names since we are moving outdoors to TCF Bank. If we do get any big names, we definitely need to sign a corner to play opposite of Rhodes. If we do any spending in FA, I believe it will only be in the secondary and to add depth to OL, DL, and LB.
3. Who's gonna be our next coach? Since Frazier and his staff will more than likely get canned after the Detroit game, our next head coaching hunt will start. One name that has been thrown out quite a bit this last week is Bill O'Brien of Penn State. He is an offensive guy, so maybe getting him will help our QB we draft (or Freeman???). Another name is Mike Zimmer, defensive coordinator of the Bengals. We probably just ruined a chance of getting him since he just witnessed how crappy our defense is and how much it's gonna take to rebuild. But one interesting idea of a new head coach is Mike Priefer. Yes, he is our Special Teams coordinator. You may be thinking, a special teams coordinator as a head coach, that ain't right. John Harbaugh was a special teams coordinator before he became a HC for Baltimore. Priefer was interviewed for a few HC jobs last offseason. Priefer gets that best out of his players and can really fire them up. You can see him on the sidelines once in a while having a "nice" talk to a player about a dumb play. Priefer has shown the ability to develop players (Walsh and Locke). I watch press conferences every week, and he takes the blame for a lot of things during games, which I like in a head coach.
This offseason may be the most important and interesting in franchise history.
* I am not saying Freeman should or will be our QB next season. We do have Rick as our GM, so we never know with him.
*I'm not saying Priefer should be our next HC, just saying he can be an option. I added a lot more to him because I know him more than the other coaches. He very may end up being a HC for a team next season (College or NFL).
