If you're anything like myself then you woke up this morning with a big smile on your face when you saw the Vikings made the right decision in letting Leslie Frazier spread his wings elsewhere. LF is a nice guy and there is plenty of that to read elsewhere on DN. A big question the firing of LF leaves us is who is going to take over as the Vikings HC, but in my opinion an even bigger question this news brings is what happens to Adrian Peterson?
Think what you want but it's no secrete that Peterson was a big supporter of LF if not the biggest you will find. In an interview after yesterdays game against the Detroit Lions, Peterson was adamant in taking time on Monday to talk to the Wilf family about keeping LF as the HC. Peterson was hoping that a decision hadn't already been made and judging by how quick LF was fired we know this decision had been made for quite some time. Peterson also said he plans on being more involved in the moves that the front office is making being that he isn't getting any younger. This indicates to me that if Adrian Peterson doesn't like the direction the franchise is going, he will be asking for a trade.
Adrian Peterson wanted two things: to have Frazier back as his coach, and to be involved in front office moves. He didn't get either of the things he wanted and honestly, moving forward, I'm not sure he gets treated any other way. Wilf has bigger things to worry about (lawsuit, selling tickets for new stadium) then Adrian Peterson's happiness. If the Vikings are willing to fire LF and not even talk to the best player on the team about it, then it's obvious that keeping Peterson happy isn't the top priority.
Now there has already been some speculation as to what would happen to Peterson this offseason, granted I attributed it to nothing more than talk during a down season. Now, I'm not so sure. I think the Wilf family is concentrated on building a team that can sell tickets when the new stadium opens and I'm not so sure where Peterson fits into that plan if he's in it at all. If there was ever a time where the Vikings would be willing to part ways with Peterson, now might be that time. How Peterson reacts to the firing of LF could determine his fate with the Vikings. I'm not advocating Adrian Peterson leaving the Vikings, I'm just wondering what this does with his relationship with the Vikings given the fact that he did not want LF gone.
So what do you guys and gals think?
