Which College Players Are Future Vikings Week 14 Review and Week 15 Primer

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Spor

Week 14 was a great week of college football with a huge upset in the most improbable way. Auburn knocking off Alabama was fantastic! That is what Alabama gets for scheduling Chattanooga the week before playing Auburn. San Jose State knocked off Fresno State in a great QB display which ends the Bulldogs chance at a BCS game. South Carolina knocked off Clemson which probably ends Clemson's shot at a BCS game as well. Penn State knocked off Wisconsin. There were a lot of other very close calls like Ohio State edging Michigan. Stanford, Baylor, and Duke all managed to hang on and win too.

The game of the week award goes to Alabama vs Auburn!

Some other games were worthy as well but since Alabama was the number 1 team, it has to be this game.

There were some impressive performances from players this past week too.

Derek Carr threw for 519 yards with 6 TDs and 1 INT vs San Jose State.
David Fales threw for 547 yards with 6 TDs and 0 INT vs Fresno State.

Devin Gardner threw for 485 yards with 4 TDs and 0 INT vs Ohio State.
Keith Wenning threw for 445 yards with 6 TDs and 0 INT vs Miami (OH).

Jordan Lynch ran for 321 yards on 27 carries adding 3 TDs vs Western Michigan.
Carlos Hyde ran for 226 yards on 27 carries adding 1 TD.

Bishop Sankey ran for 200 yards on 34 carries adding 1 TD.
Tyler Gaffney ran for 189 yards on 30 carries adding 1 TD.

Davante Adams caught 13 passes for 264 yards with 3 TDs.
Kelvin Benjamin caught 9 passes for 212 yards with 3 TDs.
Josh Huff caught 9 passes for 186 yards with 3 TDs.
Jeremy Gallon caught 9 passes for 175 yards with 1 TD.
Allen Hurns caught 9 passes for 173 yards with 0 TD.

The player of the week goes to ...

Jordan Lynch ran for 321 yards on 27 carries adding 3 TDs vs Western Michigan!

My current Heisman rankings are ...

Jordan Lynch QB Northern Illinois
Derek Carr QB Fresno State
Andre Williams RB Boston College
Johnny Manziel QB Texas A&M
Jameis Winston QB Fresno State

... if I had to give it to one guy it probably would be Jordan Lynch.

I will base my mock off the record each week. After last week the team is 3-8-1 and now are in the #6 spot.  I think the QB situation could become real dicey (to me) if Hundley returns to school too.  Then we are looking at Bridgewater, Manziel, and Carr as probable first round picks.  Some think Manziel will not be a first round pick which is fine but it is really unlikely that he would make it to the Vikings second round pick.  Then you have guys like Mettenberger, Boyd, McCarron, & Murray.  It could very well be a year where the QB class is not as good as many people think it will be.

Here is my mock for this week ...

6. Derek Carr  QB  Fresno State  rSr  6-3  215
38. Kyle Van Noy  OLB  Brigham Young  rSr  6-3  235
70. E.J. Gaines  CB  Missouri  Sr  5-10  195
96. Carlos Hyde  RB  Ohio State  rSr  6-0  235
102. Gabe Jackson  OG  Mississippi State  rSr  6-3  340
134. Kenny Ladler  FS  Vanderbilt  Sr  6-0  205
166. Ryan Carrethers  DT  Arkansas State  rSr  6-1  328
198. Kareem Martin  DE  North Carolina  Sr  6-5  265

UDFA
Jordan Lynch  QB  Northern Illinois  rSr  6-0  216
Glenn Carson  ILB  Penn State  rSr  6-3  235
Marcus Williams  CB  North Dakota State  rSr  5-11  197
Spencer Long  OG  Nebraska  rSr  6-4  315
Shaquelle Evans  WR  UCLA  rSr  6-1  204
Cornelius Lucas  OT  Kansas State  rSr  6-8  328
Ben Gardner  DE  Stanford  rSr  6-4  277
Keith Wenning  QB  Ball State  Sr  6-2  220
Trey Millard  FB  Oklahoma  Sr  6-2  253
Kevin Graf  OT  Southern California  rSr  6-6  295
Ben Malena  RB  Texas A&M  Sr  5-8  195
David Fluellen  RB  Toledo  Sr  6-0  215
Xavius Boyd  OLB  Western Kentucky  Sr  6-1  242
Keith Smith  ILB  San Jose State  Sr  6-0  230

Trevor Gillette  LS  Rice  Sr  6-3  240
Chris Davis  CB  Auburn  Sr  5-10  200

I am sticking with Carr for now.  I think it is very possible that he will be gone before the Vikings pick.  In fact, Bridgewater, Carr, and Manziel could all possibly be gone.  I could see a team moving up to get Manziel.  I think that if the Vikings end up picking 6th or lower then their chances of getting one of these 3 QBs is going to be slim.  Of course, if Hundley comes out then that is one more player available.  While I can certainly come up with some trade down scenarios, I am not a fan of that move this year. The risk of missing out on the QB you like is high.  If a player like Barr or Clowney is available then of course you could consider taking them instead and then getting another QB later.  It is all a gamble.  Maybe they will take Khalil Mack or CJ Mosley?  Heck, if they are drafting 6th or lower then I could see them drafting Mike Evans too.  That would be something.

I am hoping the team signs a free agent DT and CB.

Here is an alternate mock with the presumption that the team somehow signs Josh Freeman and also keeps Ponder.

6. Khalil Mack  OLB  Buffalo  rSr  6-3  248
38. Trevor Reilly  DE  Utah  rSr  6-5  255
70. Ed Stinson  DE  Alabama  rSr  6-3  292
96. Jimmy Garoppolo  QB  Eastern Illinois  Sr  6-2  222
102. Jack Mewhort  OT  Ohio State  rSr  6-6  308
134. David Fales  QB  San Jose State  Sr  6-2  220
166. Rashaad Reynolds  CB  Oregon State  rSr  5-10  187
198. Deandre Coleman  DT  California  rSr  6-5  315

Here is probably my favorite mock right now.

6. Johnny Manziel  QB  Texas A&M  rSo  5-11  210
38. Jordan Matthews  WR  Vanderbilt  Sr  6-3  205
70. Christian Jones  ILB  Florida State  Sr  6-3  232
96. Jackson Jeffcoat  DE  Texas  Sr  6-4  250
102. Jack Mewhort  OT  Ohio State  rSr  6-6  308
134. Ross Cockrell  CB  Duke  rSr  6-0  190
166. Nickoe Whitley  FS  Mississippi State  rSr  6-0  205
198. Colt Lyerla  TE  Oregon  Jr  6-5  250

Well enjoy the games!
