Pre-Combine Vikings Offseason Plan

UPDATE: Tweaks in free agency, draft, and added post draft depth chart. Let me know what to tweak for the next update.

This offseason I’d be happy if Speilman and the Vikings stick to their youth movement. That being said, I would rather the Vikings worry about their OWN free agents, like Phil Loadholt and Felton, rather than signing big names and older players like Jennings. I do hope free agents are added to the team, but fewer, cheaper, and younger. I also think Spielman's idea of building through the draft is brilliant.

Key Veteran Moves:
Sign Percy Harvin to long term deal, reconstruct contracts for Kevin Williams, Jared Allen, and John Carlson; retain all of them.

In house free agents:
FB Jerome Felton -Sign
WR Devin Aromashodu -Walk
WR Jerome Simpson -Sign
OT Phil Loadholt -Sign
OL Joe Berger -Sign
OG Geoff Schwartz -Walk
LB Jasper Brinkley -Walk
LB Erin Henderson -Sign
LB Marvin Mitchell -Walk
S Jamarca Sanford -Sign
OL Troy Kropog -Sign
CB AJ Jefferson -Sign
CB Marcus Sherels -Sign
S Andrew Sendejo -Walk

Release from roster:
Michael Jenkins, Charlie Johnson, Chris Kluwe, Fred Evans, Letroy Guion, Larry Dean

Trade: Joe Webb in exchange for 6th round pick to Philadelphia Eagles

Outside Free Agents:
Sign Louis Vasquez G, San Diego
Sign Johnathan Casillas OLB, New Orleans
Sign Brian Hoyer QB, Arizona

Sign Donald Jones WR, Buffalo

NFL Draft:

1. Johnathan Hankins DT, Ohio State
2. Justin Hunter WR, Tennessee
3. Blidi Wreh-Wilson CB, Connecticut
4. Johnathan Cyprien S, Florida International
4. Kiko Alonso ILB, Oregon
5. Kwame Geathers DT, Georgia
6. Collin Klein QB, Kansas State -(from Philadelphia)
6. Blaine Foltz G, TCU
7. Michael Clay OLB, Oregon
7. Quinn Sharp P, Oklahoma State

So, with free agency and the draft over, the main part of the offseason is concluded. Heading into Summer 2013, the Vikings offense would look like this. (In order of most probable depth.)

QB: Ponder, Hoyer, Bethel-Thompson, Klein
RB: Peterson, Gerhart, Asiata
WR: Harvin, Burton, Wright
WR: Hunter, Simpson, Childs, Jones
FB: Felton
TE: Rudolph, Carlson, Ellison, Reisner
RT: Loadholt, Kropog
RG: Fusco, Foltz
C: Sullivan, Berger
LG: Vasquez, Alper
LT: Kalil, Kropog

And the Defense would look like this. . .
DE: Allen, Griffen
DE: Robison, Reed
DT: Williams, Ballard
DT: Hankins, Geathers
OLB: Cassilas, Henderson
ILB: Alonso, Cole, Mckenzie
OLB: Greenway, Clay
CB: Winfield, Robinson, Burton
CB: Cook, AJ Jefferson, Sherels, Wrey-Wilson
FS: Smith, Sanford, Sandejo
SS: Raymond, Cyprien, Blanton

Special Teams. . .
P: Sharp
K: Walsh
