Donald Driver's name was tossed around on the DN as a possible free agent signing. The overwhelming majority of Viking fans weren't to keen on the idea. Citing his age and other issues were discussed. It was all for not, because Driver retired and had a nice party at Lambeau with many of his fans attending.
I saw a blurb on tv from the party and didn't give it much thought. I was reading through some articles on yahoo and ran across this:
This link takes you to a video of Driver before he left town. He goes to visit a 78 year old lady who is a cancer survivor and a Donald Driver fan. He knocks on the door and goes into the house and gives her a hug. I don't know spit about Donald Driver but this is one nice thing that he did. Sure the press was there but I think he would have done it without the media. He made this lady's life a whole lot better by taking time out of his life and giving back to a fan.
After being subjected to a couple of weeks of Ray Lewis "look at me" crap, this was a refreshing article. Donald Driver earned my respect for what he did. In the NFL celebrity world when a player can give back like this, it speaks volumes about who they really are off the field. AP2K had a similar deal with the sick boy around Christmas. Called him and sent him some gear. The boy died, but AP2K brought a level of joy to that young boy that no one else could have.
There are some good people in the world and its stories like this that help bring that point home. Donald Driver thank you for giving back to the fan and not forgetting who you are and what life is really about.
