Sanford signs a two year deal to remain a Minnesota Viking - Adam Bettcher

The Vikings re-sign their starting safety from the last two seasons

Free agent safety Jamarca Sanford has re-signed with the team, according to multiple sources...including Sanford himself:

Pro Football Talk said that it was a two year deal, but no other terms of the deal were announced. Sanford, who has started 28 of 32 games in the last two seasons, originally lost his starting job after a subpar 2011 season and a strong 2012 training camp by Mistral Raymond.

But Raymond was hurt early in the year, and given a second chance, Sanford made the most of his opportunities, as he started for the rest of the season and was a key part in the resurgence of the Vikings secondary. His play, along with rookie Harrison Smith, helped the Vikings return to the playoffs in 2012 after a three year absence.

Sanford is also a top notch special teams player, and will continue to play an important part in that role with the team.

With the release of Antoine Winfield, re-signing Sanford became a priority, and is the fourth player player to re-sign with the Vikings today. Earlier deals with right tackle Phil Loadholt, backup offensive lineman Joe Berger, and wide receiver Jerome Simpson were previously announced by the team.

The Vikings still have a lot of work to do, but Sanford is a good step forward.
