I usually do a few more posts here, but with work and such I've been super busy. So this is Mock Draft #1. Hopefully it won't be the last, but we'll see. Any and all feedback is appreciated. This is just my opinion as to what direction I think the team will go. It's been exciting so far this offseason, and Mr. GM Rick Spielman has been putting a lot of stock into the draft, so I think we can expect good things.
Without further ado- here's my mock draft:
Round 1: Pick 23
Alec Ogletree, LB Georgia. I believe Ogletree is better than Minter, but I'm not sure Ogletree will be available. If he is, I think we have to pull the trigger. The guy is the best MLB to come out in a few years. If he's gone, we can insert Minter to keep this mock less confusing.
Round 1: Pick 25 (From SEA)
Keenan Allen, WR Cal. I have been saying that he's the WR we should be targeting since January... He's a good person, a good WR, and he fits a need. He's capable of playing inside/outside, has good size, has good hands, and can go up and get the jump ball. He would look great next to Jennings & Wright. I am starting to like DeAndre Hopkins more and more, but I'm sticking with Allen for now.
Round 2: Pick 22
Jesse Williams, DT Alabama. He's probably going to be available here, as he's a 2 down player. He's great against the run, but does nothing to rush the passer. He would look great on our D-Line, and I think hes going to be available here. If not, Brandon Williams out of Missouri Southern is the guy I'd take.
Round 3: Pick 8
TRADE our 3rd (#21) and a 7th to move up 13 spots
Stedman Bailey, WR WV. Slot WR. Great hands. Great at making plays after the catch. I think he's going to be just as good as Tavon Austin at the next level. Last year's stats: 114 catches, 1,622 yards, 25 TDs. That's production.
Round 4: Pick 5 (From DET)
Tharold Simon, CB LSU. A big (6'2", 202 lbs), physical CB that would work great in a zone scheme. Cook/Simon could potentially become a very good CB combo, with Josh Robinson manning the slot CB position. I am still holding out hope for an Antoine Winfield comeback, but I'm not holding my breath. We will probably address CB here, IMO
Round 4: Pick 23
Jordan Mills, OT LA Tech. A good project at LT/RT. He has good size (6'5" 316), agility, and he showed flashes during the Senior Bowl. Has a mean streak. Could play Guard if T doesn't work out. Seems like a good project/depth pick.
Round 5: Pick 22
Dennis Johnson, RB Arkansas. A RB here, but one with nice pass-catching ability (24 for 255 yards) and a 5.5 YPC average. He also was one of the best return men in the SEC, averaging 24.3 Yards/Return. He projects to be a very good 3rd down back/special teams standout. He sounds like the perfect back-up to AP. He's 5'9" 212 lbs.
Round 6: Pick 21
Jordan Rodgers, QB Vandy. We all know who his brother is. He's known as a smart QB with a good arm. He's undersized. That's not a end-all at the QB position anymore. He's worth a 6th round pick to groom him behind Ponder & Cassel. I don't see Joe Webb or MBT on this team next year. MBT will be cut. Webb will be traded. More on that later.
Round 7: Pick 7 (From ARIZ)
Jeff Locke, P UCLA. Chris Kluwe is cut. This guy can step right in an be an above average punter. He averaged 43 yards per punt as a senior, but was even better as a younger player averaging 44, 46, 44, 43 his 4 years at UCLA. This is your opening day punter.
Round 7, Pick 23
TRADED along with our 3rd (#21) for TEN 3rd rounder (#8)
Round 7, Pick 25 (From SEA)
Traded to Cleveland, along with Joe Webb for a future 6th round pick
Our 2013 opening day Vikings:
QB: Ponder, Cassel, Rodgers
RB: Peterson, Gerhart, Johnson
FB: Felton, Ellison
WR: Jennings, Allen, Simpson, Bailey, Wright, Burton
TE: Rudolph, Carlson, Ellison
OL: Kalil, Johnson, Sullivan, Fusco, Loadholt, Berger, Mills, Kropog
DL: Allen, Williams, Williams, Robison, Griffin, Evans, Guion, Ballard
LB: Greenway, Ogletree, Henderson, Cole
CB: Cook, Robinson, Simon, Jeffferson, Sherels, and HOPEFULLY Winfield
S: Smith, Sanford, Raymond, Blanton
P: Locke
K: Walsh
LS: Loeffler
So... What does everybody think? I know it's not like you've seen about 40 of these in the past 2 weeks, but I thought I'd throw mine into the hat to see what people thought... Thanks again for the read! Have a good day! SKOL!
