NFL Draft Day 1
1. Desmond Trufant CB, Washington State
As I wrote before, you can never have too many good corners on your football team. The release of Winfield took a hit on this unit and left us weak at CB. If Desmond Trufant is available, then the Vikings can add a fast and talented corner to the roster. Trufant had a great showing at the Senior Bowl. Trufant also showed to be one of the fastest corners with a forty time of 4.38. Trufant is hard hitting, physical, and has a great mentality. He is great in coverage, but struggled a little defending the run. Trufant had 36 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, an interception, 5 passees broken up and a sack this year. Trufant has the potential to be a shutdown corner in a division with strong passing games.
1. Arthur Brown ILB, Kansas State (via Seattle)
Arthur Brown, "The Judge," has been drawing a lot of attention as of late. Brown was originally a 2-3 round pick, but has now earned first round consideration. Brown is a great football player. He is hard hitting, explosive, and is able to make plays. He had 100 tackles, 7 for a loss, 2 interceptions, 4 passes broken up, and a sack. Brown is 6 feet and 241 lb. Brown also shined at his pro day by impressing the scouts with a 4.67 forty time. He impressed in his drills as well and lifted 21 reps of 225 lbs. Brown is productive, strong, fast, and a great prospect for the Vikings to fill their hole at inside linebacker.
Draft Day 2
2. Terrance Williams WR, Baylor
I love Justin Hunter, but Terrance Williams is the safest pick here. His play and his numbers were absolutely phenomenal. Williams also proved to be productive without a star quarterback passing to him. Williams also led the all of the receiver prospects in 2012 with 1832 yards, 97 receptions, and 12 touchdowns. Williams is fast and made some outstanding catches this year and has the ability to go deep, something the Vikings receiving corps lacked this past season. Williams also shattered records against West Virginia in a huge game recording 314 yards on 17 receptions.
3. Bennie Logan DT, LSU
Logan was a great asset to one of the best front sevens in college football and I’m hoping he’d make a great addition to the Vikings defensive line in 2013. The defensive line struggled defending the run. This is class is so deep at defensive tackle that the Vikings are able to select an outstanding player in the third round like Bennie Logan. Logan had 45 tackles, 5 and half for a loss, 3 passes broken up, and two sacks this year. He was disruptive in the passing game and run game. He is 6’2 and 309 lb. Expect him to bulk up even more during the offseason. Logan also performed well at the combine.
