Well it appears that the Joe Webb experiment at quarterback is over! We need not be reminded how he was thrust into the spotlight in our lone playoff game against the Packers. Anyone with eyes could see that he was not prepared. According to NFL.com, the Vikings are now starting to explore an avenue that many a Vikings fan have wanted to see, Joe Webb at wide receiver. Bringing in Cassel freed up Webb, in spite of the FO defiantly claiming that Webb would stick to quarterback, to make the switch. I have conflicting opinions on this move, though I hope it will workout for the better. I am going to stay cautiously optimistic. Initially, I thought well good, at least he CAN'T play quarterback anymore. Then I thought, CAN he play wide receiver? We know he has the athleticism for the position.
Results from his Pro Day back in 2010 can be found here. The website in the link also lists him as the 16th out of 276 Wide Receivers as well as a QB/ATH (athlete). Obviously, he has ideal size and speed at 6'3 225 and running in the 4.4 range. The problem is that we don't know how good he is as a pass catcher. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to scrounge up any videos of Webb playing at wide receiver. I guess we'll see how this goes when we get into workouts and training camp.
