The Vikings have a few positions on the team that could be deemed as strong. However one of those positions, DE, is being mocked to the Vikings quite a bit. The contracts of our DE's were not planned out very well, leading to all 3 DE's contracts expiring next year. That leads us to another position. Adrian Peterson is the tops at his position. However many mocks have the Vikings taking a backup RB in the later rounds as well. Toby Gerhart is solid only when he has a chance to get a rhythm going.
So what is the strongest position? In my opinion, the strongest position on the team is being largely overlooked. It is the one position that I believe there is no chance we draft in the first 3 rounds. This position is Tackle. Our line is book-ended by 2 year, Pro-Bowl Left-Tackle Matt Kalil and Phil Loadholt who was just signed to a big contract extension. Loadholt is an absolute beast in the run game and is a big key to Adrian Peterson's success. Kalil was a much better body guard for Christian Ponder giving up less than 5 sacks all year. Luke Joeckel is considered to be the top player in this years draft class. If he slid to 23 this is not where the BPA strategy would be employed. Obviously this is just hypothetical.
Tackle seems to be the strongest position on the team. We could obviously draft a backup or two in the rounds 5-7, but the point is that Tackle has 2 pro-bowl caliber starters with contrasting skills. This position is set for at least the next three years. What do you guys think?
