The NFL has put out a report that the Minnesota Vikings are looking to trade up in the 1st round in the 2013 NFL draft. I read about it and also watched a video and came to conclusion that there really isn't anybody who is worth moving up for. One could argue the very talented receiver out of WV (Tavon Austin), which yes i love the stats he had in both 2011 and 2012 but I think we would be better off with a outside receiver when we have newly acquired Greg Jennings and 2nd year receiver Jarius Wright who can work greatly for us in the slot position. I'd say lets keep both the 23rd overall and 25th overall, maybe trade up in the 2nd round or trade back for extra picks, if i was Rick Speilman i would trade back to pick up more knowing that this draft is very deep in depth. With that being said here is a draft mock (picks 23-102) that i think would definitely benefit the Vikings and would put us in the running for a serious contender as long as Christian Ponder can improve this year.
RD 1. 23 De'andre Hopkins- WR 6"1. I used to be unsure of taking this guy in the 1st round but have definitely warmed up to the idea. He would fit in great as an outside receiver for us and would be a huge upgrade over the other receivers that we have. He had an amazing season with the Clemson Tigers posting up 82 receptions for 1,405 yards, and 18 TDS. With Hopkins, Wright, Jennings, Simpson and probably another receiver in the draft, this receiving corp could get really good here soon.
RD 1. 25 Manti Te'O- LB 6"1- I kind of expect to see comments to this saying no to Te'O, how horrible he was in the championship game, the stupid hoax blah blah blah blah. With all that being said i really think he fits in with the Minnesota Vikings and could be one of the best Middle linebackers that we have ever had. His 2012 season with the Fighting Irish was a very good one posting 113 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 7 interceptions. Also let me comment regarding the championship game, EVERYBODY and i mean EVERYBODY has off games where they are worst then they usually are. Think about it! Brian Urlacher has he had games where he's been caught out of position and not have a good game? Yes he has! How about Patrick Willis? Yeah hes had off games. Jon Beason? YOU BET! don't judge a player off of one game and a stupid girlfriend hoax. My final comment is that Te'O is still a very good player!
RD 2. 52 Brandon Williams- DT 6"2. So this goes with my last pick about you people that have a hard time seeing Te'O with the Vikings. Just think if we get a Defensive Tackle who could clog up space then the linebacker can do his job better and take less pressure. With being around 330 pounds Williams could possibly be our replacement since big Phat Pat left Minnesota. He is very sound against the running game (16.5 tackles for loss in 2012) put also can put the pressure on the quarterback witnessed by his 8.5 sacks in 2013. Also with B Williams puts less pressure on K Williams and maybe we will see K Williams step it up and have a more productive season.
RD 3. 83 Tyrann Mathieu- CB 5"9. I usually don't like having small, troubled corner backs on the roster but in this regard Mathieu would be the guy i would pick here. He was projected as a 1st round pick before his troubles at LSU. So what if he smoked pot!! It's live, its a choice and we have all seen how we can do with players who have been troubles in the past (Harvin). A good thing is that Mathieu has been off of the drugs and is really motivated to be drafted this year and i believe he really will work hard for any team that takes a flier on him. He's not the best CB that i would choose but his style of play is much like the recent departure of Antoine Winfield. P.S. Winfield all of us fans will miss you greatly.
RD. 4. 102 Aaron Dobson- WR 6'3. Another receiver you ask? I've been watching/reading stuff about Dobson and realized that he would be great for depth and would see some playing time. He has decent but not elite speed and has reliable hands.
