Alabama's versatile lineman, Barrett Jones, has intrigued me for quite some time. Pundits say that he doesn't have the strength for the pro game and he benefited from playing next to guys like Chance Warmack and D.J. Fluker, but there is no doubting that the kid is a workhorse and can play almost anywhere on the line.
He was once considered a low first rounder, but in some recent mocks, I've seen him falling as far as the 4th round. He is currently dealing with a foot injury, which has been a major factor in his plummeting draft stock as he was unable to compete at the Combine.
So here are my 2 questions:
1. Does Barrett really fall past the first 2 rounds?
2. If so, would he be worth our 3rd round pick?
O-Line/Guard is not in our top needs (WR, DT, MLB, CB), but it falls in shortly after. I have to believe that a healthy Barrett could beat out Johnson or Fusco with a little time and in the meantime, would make a very valuable back-up to several positions.
If we maintain our current picks, we can take 3 players of positional need before round 3, and if Jones is still on the board, he would have to be one of the better players available.
