Post Round 1 2013 Draft Thoughts

Wow. Wow wow wow. That is what we are all thinking around here right? Let's see what happened tonight...

1a) Shariff Floyd-Perhaps the best defensive player in this draft, and probably the biggest steal of the draft. Needless to say, I am extremely impressed and happy with this pick. Day one starter, and impact maker. Will have a great NFL career.

1b) Xavier Rhodes-Surefire CB with strong aggressiveness and talent. Excellent tackler, and his great size makes him an incredible man cover corner. What scares me about him though is that he is not nearly as impressive in zone coverage as he is in man. And zone coverage is the Vikings main defensive scheme in the Tampa 2. I just hope he can improve as a zone guy while maintaining his shutdown ability which we can use against Johnson, Marshall, and Jones. Day one starter as well, and am certain he will do well, but how well depends on his ability to improve on his zone coverage skills.

1c) Cordarelle Patterson- Rough around the edges, but has lots of potential and upside. According to Spielman, will take over kick and punt return duties, and he says he could be even better at it than Harvin was. He is not a very good route runner, and makes too many body catches, but has the speed, size, and strength to really stretch the field and make big catches anywhere. Many say has more potential than any other receiver in this draft, but he also has the highest bust potential. Not to mention we had to give up the whole farm for him. It will be awhile before we see if this was a good deal or not, but obviously Wilf, Spielman, and Frazier see something great in him. Definitely a day one starter, but has a lot of work to do in training camp to prepare.

Now, as for what remains in this draft for the Vikings.......

4, 5, 6, 7, 7

Not very many picks left considering we have needs left.

Our GREATEST need remaining is MLB. I wanted to use the Patterson pick for Ogletree instead but obviously that didn't happen, and I feel we would have been in much better shape. It is arguable that we have other needs remaining at FS, G, WR, CB, P, and OLB. So I have made a mock draft real quickly of our remaining picks with what I think we could do with them. But obviously after seeing this madness that Spielman has pulled, it won't come out to be anywhere close to what will happen. So here goes nothing...

4) MLB- Bostic or Alonso

5) CB- Simon or McGee

6) FS- Wolff or Motta or Lester

7) OLB- Knott or Clay

7) G- Uzzi or Foltz

What do you guys think about our three draft picks so far, our remaining needs, and what will ultimately happen in the rest of the draft?
