Where did all the love go? Jarius Wright had a great rookie season last year. Came in for an injured Harvin and became Ponder’s best target as a WR for the last 7 games of the season.
But around rolls 2013 and the Vikings have new shiny toys at WR. Greg Jennings, the great route runner and Old Spice spokesperson. Cordarrelle Petterson, the freak of nature, video game type player and Harvinesk style replacement. Greg Childs, the really big guy with the huge work ethic and the latest creation from Dr. Sugarstein’s laboratory. Duron Carter, the guy with the awesome dad slated to get a tryout.
Don’t go to sleep on Wright though. Most good NFL WR’s make big strides from their rookie season to their second season and I don’t see why this wouldn’t be the case for Wright. So he’s not huge at 5’10”, but he runs in the 4.3’s and has a 38” vertical. Reminds me of a Steve Smith, which isn’t too bad.
He is a natural Z guy and we shouldn’t be too surprised to see him starting there this season.
I love our new WR’s and am really rooting for Childs, but my money is on Wright as a major contributor this season. We could end up with a really talented group of wide outs for Ponder this year.
