Vikings reach a Deal with University of Minnesota

Not much to it at this moment, but more details come Thursday. Till then here is the whole story regardless of what source you use.

Vikings reach deal with Gophers

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Vikings have reached agreement on the Vikings' use of TCF Bank Stadium for two seasons.

The Vikings would play outdoors on the university's Minneapolis campus in 2014 and 2015 while the NFL team's new stadium is built on the site of the Metrodome.

The deal requires approval from the university's Board of Regents. The agreement goes before the regents' Facilities and Operations Committee on Thursday, with the full board scheduled to act Friday.

University spokesman Chuck Tombarge and Vikings vice president Lester Bagley say no details will be released until a briefing Thursday.

A letter of intent last May set a tentative deal for the Vikings to pay the school $3 million a season for up to four years, plus revenue sharing.

So that was last night......

U of M, Vikings have agreement on TCF Bank Stadium use

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - The University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Vikings have reached an agreement allowing the Vikings to use TCF Bank Stadium while they await construction of their new facility.

SET FOR 2014, 2015 NFL SEASONS

The Vikings currently plan to play in TCF Bank Stadium during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, but the agreement says the Vikings will be allowed to use the facility for up to two more seasons if necessary.

The franchise will pay the University $250,000 per game during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, but will incur additional fees should stadium use extend into the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Each game will cost $262,000 and $275,000, respectively.

The University will earn a maximum of $3 million for each of the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

NO MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL?

The Vikings will only be allowed to use the facility for Sunday games and one weeknight game each season as approved by the University. Based on these provisions, the Vikings likely won't play a Monday night football game. The Vikings' one weeknight game should fall on a Thursday as the NFL Network dictates each team must play one televised Thursday game.

CONCESSIONS

The Vikings will pay $50,000 per game for revenue generated through sponsorships, advertising and concessions.

Beer and wine may be sold throughout the stadium on Viking game days, hard liquor sold in premium seating areas only.

COKE OR PEPSI?

Because TCF Bank Stadium sells Coke products, Coke and Pepsi have agreed that Gatorade products will be allowed on playing field sidelines, Gatorade and Pepsi products will be allowed in one suite, and print ads can run in Vikings programs.

NEXT STEPS

A facility use agreement is subject to approval by the University's Board of Regents, and the committee's report will be presented to the full Board of Regents at a meeting Friday.

Gov. Mark Dayton said Wednesday that he's looking into a new funding source for the Vikings' new stadium. The Vikings and the general public will not pay more than anticipated, but no further details were released.

The Vikings stadium design will be unveiled at the Guthrie in Minneapolis on May 13.
