Where the Vikings Rank Going Into This Season

Okay, I'm a little more optimistic about the Vikings than most; but so what. There are so many variables that will dictate a team's season that when trying to predict what will be is really just one big guessing game. There are likely scenarios, but it's much like life in general; the unforeseen events have the biggest effect what will ultimately happen.

It isn't every year that the very best team in the league wins the Super Bowl. In fact, I would say over the past decade or so half the teams that were the best team of their respected year were not Super Bowl winners. Anything can happen on any given Sunday as they say, and the best team doesn't always win.

So, why do people think we have to have every little thing perfect on this team before we can seriously consider Minnesota as a possible contender for winning the Super Bowl? When I look at this team, I see a team that can win it all. When I look at the entire league, I do see teams that look like they are better. The top two that come to mind are Denver and San Francisco. And S.F. went to the Super Bowl this past year, but not after first losing to the Minnesota Vikings convincingly. Now, after the game there was still not a single pundit or very many Vikings' fans that would say Minnesota was the better team, but Minnesota still won and won convincingly. Minnesota also beat teams like G.B. and Houston, who were both considered and picked by many as favorites to go to the Super Bowl. So, what does that tell you? Minnesota plays very well against the elite teams and very well as the underdog.

So, I'm going to put a list of my own top 10 power rankings going into this year's season. I'm sure it will look nothing like the ones from the pundits, but let me know what you guys think and how much of a chance you really think the Vikings have of actually reaching and winning the Super Bowl this year.

1. San Francisco

2. Denver

3. Green Bay

4. Atlanta

5. Houston

6. New England

7. Minnesota

8. Seattle

9. Indianapolis

10. Baltimore

As you see, I have the Super Bowl loser ranked # 1 and the Super Bowl champion rank 10th. Many say they have to be # 1, but not in my opinion and I think they will finish the year somewhere around .500. I do think hey deserve the respect and are the champions, but just lost to many players and everyone will be gunning for them. I have Minnesota at 7 and could have easily put Indianapolis and Seattle ahead and pushed the Vikings to 9, but I think the Viking's team as a whole has taken bigger strides than both of the other two. Now, Minnesota being ranked as the 7th best team in my opinion gives them a very good chance to win it all. After all, the best team at the beginning of the year is rarely the best team at the end of the year.

How would you guys rank the Vikings in you own power ranking right now?
