We move over to the other side of the bracket for our match-up for today, a match-up that pits a fairly steady presence for the Minnesota Vikings for a number of years against a guy that burned brightly. . .and burned out just as quickly.
Alma Mater: University of Southern California
Acquired by Vikings: Round 1, 1983 NFL Draft
Seasons in Minnesota: 9 (1983-1991)
While his reputation was (deservedly) mainly that of a hard-hitting safety, Joey Browner had a great all-around game, as he's currently fourth all-time in interceptions for the Minnesota Vikings, tallying 37 picks in his nine seasons in purple. Browner was a six-time Pro Bowler, a three-time first-team All-Pro (and one-time second-team All-Pro), and a member of the National Football League's All-Decade Team for the 1980s, one of three Vikings players to earn that distinction.
Sorry. . .not a great video. Not a lot of Joey Browner clips on YouTube.
Alma Mater: University of Nevada-Las Vegas
Acquired by Vikings: Signed as free agent prior to the 1997 season
Seasons in Minnesota: 3 (1997-1999)
Though he came off the bench to lead the Vikings to a win over the New York Giants in the 1997 NFL Playoffs, Cunningham will always be remembered in Minnesota for his amazing 1998 season. Taking over for Brad Johnson in Week 3 of the season, Cunningham led an offense that ended the season as the highest-scoring offense in NFL history, racking up 556 total points en route to a 15-1 record. He may have only had one great season in purple, but what a season it was.
Yes, it's mostly a Moss clip, but it was a heck of a throw by Cunningham, too.
Voting procedure is going to be the same as it was yesterday, folks.
If you want to vote for Joey Browner, rec the comment that says, "Vote - Joey Browner"
If you want to vote for Randall Cunningham, rec the comment that says, "Vote - Randall Cunningham"
Don't rec both comments. . .we're on the honor system here, folks. Although I don't know why you'd rec both anyway. . .you'd end up just canceling yourself out.
Please do not reply to either of the top two comments. . .if you want to debate or make your case or what have you, feel free to do so underneath those top two comments. Remember. . .only recs count, so make sure that's how you register your vote.
The voting will remain open until 8 AM Central time tomorrow, at which point the next two match-ups will be posted.
Have at it, everybody!
