Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament: (8) Joe Kapp vs (9) Zygi Wilf

We've got another match-up for everyone to have a look at in our Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament on this Wednesday, and this one will likely be a lot closer than some of our other match-ups to this point have been.

Joe Kapp

Alma Mater: University of California
Acquired by Vikings: Signed as free agent prior to the 1967 season
Seasons in Minnesota: 3 (1967-1969)
Position: Quarterback

Kapp was a legend in the Canadian Football League. . .so much so that new Vikings' coach Bud Grant basically hand-picked Kapp to be the team's quarterback when he took over as coach in 1967. He wasn't known for throwing a particularly pretty ball, and didn't even complete 50% of his passes as a Viking. However, he was known for being tough as nails, and is still a co-holder of the National Football League record with seven touchdown passes in one game, a feat he accomplished in 1969 against the Baltimore Colts. Kapp left the team as a free agent after leading the Vikings to their first Super Bowl. He's also the only player in football history to quarterback a team in the Super Bowl, the Rose Bowl, and the Grey Cup.

Unrelated to his time with the Vikings, he was the coach of his alma mater, the University of California, when this happened.

Zygi Wilf

Alma Mater: Fairleigh Dickinson University
Acquired by Vikings: Bought team from Red McCombs prior to 2005 season
Seasons in Minnesota: 8 (2005-present)
Position: Owner

Wilf was born in Germany, the son of Holocaust survivors. When it appeared that a bid from Reggie Fowler to buy the team from Red McCombs would fall through, Wilf. . .whose family made their money in real estate in New Jersey. . .stepped up to become the majority owner. His tenure of ownership has been marked by a significant change in culture, something the team needed in the wake of the infamous "Love Boat" scandal, which happened in Wilf's first year of ownership. Most importantly, he will likely go down in history as the man that saved football in Minnesota, having worked very hard to help the team get a new stadium that will come online starting in 2016.

Voting procedure is going to be the same as it was yesterday, folks.

-If you want to vote for Joe Kapp, rec the comment that says, "Vote - Joe Kapp"
-If you want to vote for Zygi Wilf, rec the comment that says, "Vote - Zygi Wilf"

Don't rec both comments. . .we're on the honor system here, folks. Although I don't know why you'd rec both anyway. . .you'd end up just canceling yourself out.

Please do not reply to either of the top two comments. . .if you want to debate or make your case or what have you, feel free to do so underneath those top two comments. Remember. . .only recs count, so make sure that's how you register your vote.

The voting will remain open until 8 AM Central time tomorrow, at which point the next two match-ups will be posted.

Have at it, everybody!
