Since we are in the dog days of the year when Viking news is less than plentiful and the community members of this site have exceptional insight to our favorite team, I thought I would ask a question to get some feedback.
I am sure that most of us have a favorite player that is either on the current roster or has since retired or been traded. But I want to throw a little twist into the mix. I would love to hear who your favorite player is or was that went to your Alma mater or your favorite college team.
Mine is easy pretty easy since there have only been 9 players that I can think of that have played for the Vikings that went to Notre Dame, if you don’t count Randy Moss, who got kicked out as a freshman. They are Pete Bercich, Robert Blanton, John Carlson, Dave Huffman, Mike McGill, Alan Page, Kyle Rudolph, Harrison Smith and John Sullivan.
My favorite is Alan Page. And how could it not be? Page was part of one of the fiercest defensive front fours of all time, won a league MVP and was All Pro six times with 9 consecutive pro bowl appearances. One of the coolest things I always loved about Page was his off the field persona never matched up to his on field demeanor. A quiet cerebral man off the field, Page attended law school in the off seasons and is now a State Supreme Court Judge. I find that really awesome.
If I had to pick a current favorite it would be Harrison Smith. I was thrilled to see his transition to the NFL go so well last year and look forward to him growing to be the same kind of leader on our defense that he was at ND.
So, what say you?
