"I grew up a Vikings fan and I would be lying to you if I didn’t say I was still a Vikings fan," Fitzgerald said. "Growing up in Minnesota it’s second nature. I still pull for them when I’m not playing them. A lot of my closest friends in the NFL are Vikings. I’m close with [Everson] Griffen, Jared Allen, Phil [Loadholt], Adrian Peterson, Kyle Rudolph. You pull for your friends."
There’s nothing surprising about those comments, and Fitzgerald’s own dad said a couple years ago that his son always wanted to be a Viking. Fitzgerald was a Vikings ball boy as a kid, and those deep roots may never go away.
Larry Fitzgerald has always been a player I respected. I wish we could have found a way to trade Harvin for Fitzgerald or when he was working on his contract. The Cardinals know what kind of player Fitzgerald is. The guy would make a very good Viking and can now count me as a fan. The Cardinals rewarded his play with a lucrative contract. I will find it easy to cheer for you Mr. Fitzgerald except when your playing the Vikings. I use to watch your QB, Mr. Warner play football when he was in college at UNI.
It is a rare day that another player (on another team) goes on the record with such a statement. Kaepernick got in a little hot water for wearing a Dolphin's hat. Fitzgerald's situation is a little different by growing up around the team and his dad being a coach. I think it is pretty cool, can things get going any better for the Vikings? Yes, they can but nobody should be complaining right now. Good news just keeps coming.
What do you think about players coming out and saying they like another team like Fitzgerald or Kaepernick?
