John Sullivan gets some major love

Grantland (Bill Simmons' spinoff site from ESPN) has a great write-up on our favorite NFL center, John Sullivan. Follow this link to read the whole article: http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/67576/the-all-22-all-star-team-the-vikings-john-sullivan.

Here are some takeaways:

1. Not many fans outside of Minnesota know who John Sullivan is, but he may be the best center in the National Football League.

2. He learned a lot from veterans Matt Birk and Steve Hutchinson.

3. Sullivan struggled for the first year or two after Birk left, although he has developed into a star on our offensive line.

4. Despite not being the most physically gifted center, Sullivan has managed to excel. His intelligence is off the charts. As the article says "Individual plays are won on Tuesday, not Sunday." Sullivan also uses balance, technique, and hand strength to impose his will on defenders.

Interesting tidbit: He was 3-time state champion in wrestling in high school.

Offensive linemen in general do not get enough love, and I know that Sullivan in particular has been an unsung hero for the Vikings. Let's all give a hearty "Skol!" to John for his excellent work in the middle of our line.
