Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament: (1) Cris Carter vs (4) Paul Krause

We continue through the Sweet 16 of our Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament with this third round match-up. In this battle, the man that will go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this Saturday will take on a man that already has that distinction as the NFL's all-time interception leader.

Cris Carter

Alma Mater: The. . .dramatic pause. . .Ohio State University
Acquired by Minnesota: Acquired on waivers prior to the 1990 season
Seasons in Minnesota: 12 (1990-2001)
Position: Wide receiver
How He Got Here: Defeated John Sullivan 137-7 in Round 1; Defeated Matt Blair 217-17 in Round 2

The waiver claim the Vikings put in on Cris Carter likely represents the smartest $100 the Minnesota Vikings franchise has ever spent. He leads the Minnesota Vikings in every significant receiving category, having hauled in 1,004 passes for 12,383 yards and 110 touchdowns. (Yes, those are just his numbers as a member of the Vikings.) Rated by the NFL Network as having the best pair of hands in the history of the league and possibly the best "boundary receiver" the league has ever known thanks to his ability to use the sidelines, Cris Carter is truly among the all-time greats. After being passed over a ridiculous five times, Carter will finally be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Paul Krause

Alma Mater: University of Iowa
Acquired by Vikings: Trade with Washington Redskins before 1968 season
Seasons in Minnesota: 12 (1968-1979)
Position: Safety
How He Got Here: Defeated Jerry Burns 149-23 in Round 1; Defeated Matt Birk 173-15 in Round 2

Paul Krause was a mainstay on the Vikings' defense for over a decade, and still holds one of the most impressive records in National Football League history. He is the current leader in career interceptions for league history with 81, and 53 of those thefts came when he was wearing purple. He started 146 of 172 career games for the Vikings, and was the starting safety on all four of their Super Bowl teams. According to the statistics, he even recorded a touchdown pass in 1977 at the age of 35. Paul Krause was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998.
