This is in part a respond to another Norseman article "Call me AP .. Not the other thing" because the tittle is misleading. Adrian does in fact prefers to be called AD rather than AP. He has said this on multiple occasions.
Adrian Peterson has only one name and it's Adrian Peterson (actually, his full name is Adrian Lewis Peterson). However, a spectacular athlete of Mr. Peterson's caliber is bound to end up with a few nicknames throughout his career.
Pseudonyms, aliases... whatever you wanna call it. Here are some of Adrian's nicknames:
"All Day" - A nickname given by Peterson's father because he was always full of energy and stamina, a nickname that suits him well to this day as Peterson is famous for breaking down opposing defenses.
"A.D." - Short for "All Day".
"Purple Jesus" - A nickname given by the fans in Minnesota as Adrian brought new excitement to the team. Peterson himself is not a very big fan considering he's a religious man.
Personally, I think it's too good of a nickname and I like to refer to Adrian as the "Purple Messiah". Jesus is the name of a person, but a messiah is not. It doesn't even necessarily involve religion.
"Diesel" - A nickname given by Peterson's teammates in high-school because he plays "like a machine". A diesel is hard to stop, the same mentality that Adrian Peterson has as he runs over defenders in the NFL.
"Cyborg" - Another nickname that has surfaced a lot lately (maybe the Daily Norseman was the first?) as Adrian has proved to not only have incredible combination of power, speed, and strength, but also miraculous healing abilities.
In Norway we have a saying: "Kjært barn har mange navn".
Roughly translated it means "popular child has many names". (minus the child part, this seems to be the case)
