Maybe it's just me, but the recent NFP power rankings were released today and I am going to go out on a limb thinking that the Vikings are far too low. (If you haven't taken a look, you can see it here: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/NFP-preseason-power-rankings.html) Try not to let your jaw hit the floor like mine did...
I am a Vikings homer. I love all things purple and gold and will forever carry my sword and shield next to my Norseman, but this is ludicrous. Joe Fortenbaugh has the Vikings ranked 26th overall in the NFL and 4th in the NFC North, coming from a team that finished 6th in the NFC and 2nd in the NFC North just a year removed. He goes on to state that the Vikings have had inconsistent Quarterback play (obviously) and that AP cannot even come close to his 2012 campaign.
While I understand that Vikings have a question mark at QB and a few in the secondary, this roaster is vastly improved compared to a year ago. The only major losses in personal this team has seen have been the departures of Percy Harvin, Antoine Winfield and Chris Kluwe. I believe both Harvin and Kluwe were replaced by equal/better players in Greg Jennings and Jeff Locke, while I will admit at the moment Winfield is a better player than Xavier Rhodes.
That is also minimizing the effect another year under Coach Frazier's guidance will do along with Coach Musgrave's offense. In addition, the Vikings have added major players in Shariff Floyd, Cordarelle Patterson, Gerald Hodges, and Michael Mauti and Desmond Bishop to name a few. Finally, I am not going to get into the Ponder debate. It has been beaten like a dead horse and we can judge him tomorrow against the Texans for his 2 or 3 series he gets.
Maybe my Purple Glasses are just a bit too tight over here, but I find it hard to believe that the Vikings will finish behind both the Lions and Bears. I think we even have a shot at winning the North and I truly believe this is the strongest roaster we have had since the 2009 season.
A few other things to note about this list that do not include the Vikings: 1. The Packers are once again over-rated like usual. 2. The Cowboys, Colts, Redskins and Dolphins are ranked far higher than they proved last season. 3. We are behind the Rams, Titans, Eagles, Panthers and Chargers. What is that bull crap? 4. This is just a preseason ranking so no need to blow it out of proportion like I just did. 5. Under the radar is never a bad thing.
