Yesterday's game was very heartbreaking, but it is time to move on and get ready for next week's game against the Browns. But I have to get this off of my chest, THE PONDER BASHING NEEDS TO STOP! I know he has been inconsistent, but I saw (and read) something that leaves me more optimistic about Ponder than I have ever been before. I've been pretty neutral about Ponder since the time we drafted him. There are games where I am wondering why don't we have someone else in, then I see games like yesterday (mostly 2nd half) where I'm thinking, this is exactly the type of quarterback we need.
The game didn't start out pretty yesterday and progressively got worse when Ponder threw the pick 6. After that pick 6, Ponder looked like the quarterback that could lead a team built like we are to the Super Bowl if he had an offensive coordinator that called better plays. Ponder did something I have never seen him really do. After that interception, but bounced back and LED the scoring drive. Seeing him bounce back after his seat got hotter than the sun was great!
Ponder's play got him a lot of respect yesterday. He laid out one of the Bears' defensive players (I think it was Briggs) at the end of a run. He also put his body on the line when he fought for a first down in the fourth quarter. In an interview after the game yesterday that USA Today writer Tom Pelissero posted on Twitter, Bears CB Charles Tillman said "My respect level has gone up tremendously for Ponder. He did great things out there." When asked about the Vikings he said "They are a playoff team. It was pound for pound, blow for blow, a heavyweight battle."
There is reason to still be optimistic about this season. We have 3 winnable games coming up that are at home, or considered to be "at home." We can be 3-2 midway through October knocking on the door if the correct adjustments are made. SKOL VIKINGS!
