Browns At Vikings: A Possible Quarterback Change?

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Nope, not that one.

Rather, it appears that the Cleveland Browns could be starting a different quarterback when they come into the Metrodome for the Minnesota Vikings' home opener on Sunday, and it's a face that should be familiar to Vikings fans.

There's a very good chance that journeyman Jason Campbell will be the man taking the snaps for Cleveland when the game starts this Sunday in Minneapolis. Cleveland's incumbent starter, Brandon Weeden, smacked the thumb of his throwing hand on a helmet in Cleveland's 14-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, and left the stadium wearing a brace on his hand. The thumb appears to be sprained, and that could be enough to keep Weeden off the field this Sunday.

Campbell, who was a first-round pick of the Washington Redskins in the 2005 NFL Draft, is on his fourth NFL team in nine seasons. Vikings fans actually got to see him in last year's game against the Chicago Bears at the Metrodome. He relieved an injured Jay Cutler towards the end of the game and actually led a touchdown drive for Chicago to close the gap to 21-14. He was 6-for-9 for 64 yards and that touchdown in that game.

The Cleveland offense has produced just 16 points in their first two contests, and only one touchdown. It remains to be seen if a change at quarterback will kick-start their offense, but they may not have a choice as to whether or not they find out. Our friends over at Dawgs by Nature will have more on this story as it develops.

EDIT: At least one Browns' website is speculating that the Browns could, potentially, go with the relatively unseasoned Brian Hoyer in Weeden's stead. Would be interesting, to say the least.
