The Honorable Sir Grime's recent post about the negativity of posts and of comments on the links got me thinking he was dead on correct. We actually have many things to be quite positive about. Having the mentality of Lloyd Christmas is extremely beneficial in these situations, if not drinking the Kool-Aid or smoking the crack. As an aside I would like to request Monty Python's version of "Always Look on the Bright Side" for music this week. First off is the power rankings. The Vikings are currently 28th. That means there are four NFL teams that are considered worse than we are. That's almost a whole handful. More importantly you must consider what teams they are. Most, if not all of us, live or have roots of some type in Minnesota. How would you like to have a football team, decidedly worse than the Vikings and live in Cleveland or Oakland? Yeah, we have it pretty good compared to that. The best part is we get to play the Browns on Sunday in the dome. The information I'm using in this post was valid on Monday, before the game and should be fairly accurate afterwards too. I apologize for any typos, as I tend to suck at typing. Let's jump right into with Ponder. In spite what many seem to think, he has improved dramatically so far this year. His ay/a last year was 6.06. So far this year it's 8.0. That's over a 30% improvement. Incredible, I know. If he keeps this up he'll be averaging over 30 yards an attempt by the end of the year. Ponder's pass completion percentage is better than Tom Brady's. Amazing, who would've thought!! Our pass offense is 20th. That means there are 12 NFL teams that have a worse passing game than the Vikings. A full dozen teams that we, with Ponder as qb, have a better passing game than they do. Even with our two passing td's there are five teams worse. Another part of the passing games success has been our offensive line has only allowed four sacks. Eight teams have allowed more. Having the MVP running back in the league one would think we would be even better at the running game and we are. There are 22 teams worse than we are. All your fingers and toes and a couple to spare. The same goes for rushing touchdowns. There are 22 NFL teams, as of Monday, worse than the Vikings at scoring touchdowns running. On the defensive side of the ball we have a lot to be positive about too. To begin with our defensive line has a sack. There is actually one team out there that doesn't in the NFL. Having two pro bowlers and a first round rookie is paying off there. It's even more evident on total passing defense where there are seven, count 'em, seven, teams worse than the Vikings. Our rushing defense isn't quite as excellent, but still there are six teams worse than we are. In total defense as far as yards per game, there are four NFL teams that allow more yardage than we do. In points allowed, three teams worse. We should all be thankful we aren't their fans. The really scary stat concerns the defensive backs. Everyone was so concerned when Winfield left. Not to worry, in interceptions there are a full 22 teams with fewer. Yep, that's right. Small detail the dline helps out, but still....if that keeps up we'll have 24 for the year. That's darn good, I don't care who you are. So there you have it. See there's no reason for all the whining, complaining, second guessing and constant Ponder bashing. We have a lot to be thankful for and positive about. After all we don't live in Cleveland or Oakland.
