A Brief Look At Steelers/Vikings History

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Continuing the trend from the first three games of the season, we're going to take a quick look at the history between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings. The series between these two teams is fairly evenly matched, but the Steelers have definitely had the advantage as of late.

As has been the case the past few weeks, all of this data comes from the folks at Pro Football Reference.

Total Games Between the Steelers and the Vikings: 15 (plus one in the post-season)

All-Time Record: Vikings, 8-7 (0-1 in the post-season)

Total Vikings Points Scored Head-to-Head: 340 (22.7 points/game)

Total Steelers Points Scored Head-to-Head: 267 (17.8 points/game)

Longest Vikings Winning Streak: 3 (18 October 1964 - 23 November 1969)

Longest Vikings Losing Streak: 3 (2 December 2001 - 25 October 2009)

Most Recent Vikings Victory in Minnesota21 September 1986 (Final score 31-7)

Most Recent Steelers Victory in Minnesota18 December 2005 (Final score 18-3)

Biggest Vikings Victory in Minnesota: 38 points, 23 November 1969 (Final score 52-14)

Biggest Steelers Victory in Minnesota: 15 points, 18 December 2005 (Final score 18-3)

And a few miscellaneous things. . .

-Running back Adrian Peterson has only faced the Steelers once, and he didn't have his greatest game, carrying the ball 18 times for 69 yards and a score. That was the game where he obliterated Steelers' defensive back William Gay, which I know we all remember.

-New quarterback Matt Cassel hasn't exactly had his biggest games against the Steelers. He's faced the Steelers three times, compiling a record of 1-2. He has completed less than half of his passes (47.4%) for 571 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. He has an overall quarterback rating of 60.5 against Pittsburgh.

-Greg Jennings has seen the Steelers twice in his career, once in the regular season and once in the post-season. His regular season appearance saw him grab five passes for 118 yards and a touchdown, while his post-season appearance saw him get four grabs for 64 yards and two scores.

And that's a brief look at the history between the Vikings and the Steelers. The Vikings will try to avoid their longest losing streak ever against the Steelers on Sunday. We'll see if they can get it done.
