Which College Players Are Future Vikings Week 1 Review and Week 2 Primer

Justin K. Aller

That was a pretty good first week of college football, no? Just because football has begun. I do not know if Clemson beating Georgia was necessarily an upset although the rankings indicated as much. I thought the upsets were Washington beating Boise State, E. Washington beating Oregon State, North Dakota State beating Kansas State, Northern Illinois beating Iowa, and Northern Iowa beating Iowa State. The games that were probably the most interesting were Nebraska vs Wyoming, E. Washington vs Oregon State, Ole Miss vs Vanderbilt, Clemson vs Georgia, Utah vs Utah State, and Fresno State vs Rutgers. This upcoming week should be exciting.

The game of the week award goes to Fresno State vs Rutgers!

In a departure from last year's format, I am no longer going to compile the stats for as many players as I did last year.  It takes up too much time and with my little ones demanding more of my time, well, the stats have to wait.
Here are some of the top draft eligible performers this past week

Derek Carr  QB  Fresno State  rSr  6-3  215  completed 53 of 74 for 470 yards and 5 TDs and 1 INTs
Teddy Bridgewater  QB  Louisville  Jr  6-3  220  completed 23 of 28 passes for 355 yards with 5 TDs and 1 INTs
Tajh Boyd  QB  Clemson  rSr  6-1  225  completed  for 18 of 30 for 270 yards and 3 TDs and 0 INTs
Keith Price  QB  Washington  rSr  6-1  202  completed 23 of 31 for 324 yards and 2 TDs and 1 INTs

I did not post Brett Hundley or Marcus Mariota since they may not come out.  Also, Jameis Winston is just a red-shirt freshman so we have to wait at least through next season.  He looked impressive though.  Of course Pitt's secondary was the worst I have seen in a long time.  At one point, I thought Josh Robinson was out there.

Lache Seastrunk  RB  Baylor  rJr  5-9  210  had 11 carries for 111 yards and 2 TDs
De'Anthony Thomas  RB  Oregon  Jr  5-9  178  had 18 carries for 128 yards and 2 TDs
Bishop Sankey  RB  Washington  Jr  5-10  200  had 25 carries for 191 yards and 2 TDs
James White  RB  Wisconsin  Sr  5-10  198  had 11 carries for 143 yards and 1 TDs
Roderick McDowell  RB  Clemson  rSr  5-9  195  had 22 carries for 132 yards and 0 TDs
Rajion Neal  RB  Tennessee  Sr  5-11  212  had 16 carries for 141 yards and 1 TDs
Jeremy Smith  RB  Oklahoma State  rSr  5-10  208  had 15 carries for 102 yards and 2 TDs

Marqise Lee  WR  Southern California  Jr  6-0  195  caught 8 passes for 104 yards and 0 TDs
Sammy Watkins  WR  Clemson  Jr  6-1  205  caught 6 passes for 127 yards and 1 TDs
Brandon Coleman  WR  Rutgers  rJr  6-5  220  caught 10 passes for 105 yards and 2 TDs
Jordan Matthews  WR  Vanderbilt  Sr  6-3  205  caught 10 passes for 178 yards and 1 TDs

Allen Robinson  WR  Penn State  Jr  6-3  205  caught 7 passes for 133 yards and 1 TDs
*Paul Richardson  WR  Colorado  rJr  6-1  176  caught 10 passes for 208 yards and 2 TDs
Devin Street WR  Pittsburgh  rSr  6-3  192  caught 6 passes for 141 yards and 0 TDs
Jared Abbrederis  WR  Wisconsin  rSr  6-1  188  caught 2 passes for 122 yards and 2 TDs
TJ Jones  WR  Notre Dame  Sr  6-0  195  caught 6 passes for 138 yards and 0 TDs
Eric Ward  WR  Texas Tech  rSr  5-11  206  caught 13 passes for 150 yards and 0 TDs
Robert Herron  WR  Wyoming  Sr  5-9  187  caught 4 passes for 91 yards and 1 TDs

I thought Devin Street was impressive considering it was against Florida State.  Coleman also looks good.

On defense ...

Khalil Mack OLB  Buffalo  rSr  6-3  248  had 7 solo and 2 assisted with 2.5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, and 1 INT
Lamarcus Joyner  FS  Florida State  Sr  5-8  195  had 7 solo and 2 assists with 2.0 TFLs, 2.0 sacks, and 1 PD
DaQuan Jones  DT  Penn State  Sr  6-3  333 had 8 solo and  1 assists with 3.0 TFLs and 1 sack
Max Bullough  ILB  Michigan State  Sr  6-3  245  had 3 solo and 6 assists with 2.5 TFLs
Bene Benwikere  CB  San Jose State  Sr  5-11  192  had 3 solo and 2 assists with 3 PDs, and 1 INT

Khalil Mack had a good game against Ohio State.  Very good even in a losing effort.

My  mock for this update will still use the 21 to 24 spot .

If you recall, I had selected Logan Thomas in my mock last week.  After his 5 out of 26 for 59 yard performance you should have all the evidence you need that I do not know what the hell I am talking about more often than not.  Boy, that was an awful pick and performance!  Although it may not be all his fault and they were playing Alabama.  But come on man.

So now I give you a new mock with all the insight as my last mock!

21. Khalil Mack  OLB  Buffalo  rSr  6-3  248
53. James Wilder Jr.  RB  Florida State  Jr  6-1  226
85. Scott Crichton  DE  Oregon State  rJr  6-3  260
90. DaQuan Jones  DT  Penn State  Sr  6-3  333
117. Derek Carr  QB  Fresno State  rSr  6-3  215
149. Deone Bucannon  FS  Washington State  Sr  6-1  198
181. John Urschel  OG  Penn State  rSr  6-3  304
213. Marcus Williams  CB  North Dakota State  rSr  5-11  197

Enjoy the games this week!
