I've tempered my expectations for this season and have little faith in Ponder becoming the elite QB I feel this franchise and Fan base deserve. I don't like the fact that we as fans have to rip each other apart to defend nothing more the average QB play at best. Well, what am I trying to get to, you wonder.
Elite or top QBs can win despite poor defensive play. Elite QBs keep their own defense on the sidelines to get rest while they go on a clock eating march for a score.
The Vikings, despite what we seen against the Lions are a good football team. But is good, good enough? And when I say enough, I mean are they Superbowl good. The answer is quite simple. No we are not. And our quarterback is a pretty big reason in that.
Cry now, laugh later. That's the philosophy I'm adopting for this season. I'm full throttle ready for a dramatic QB upgrade. And to do that would mean suffering a lackluster season. Is wasting a year of APs prime worth it, one may ask? Simply put, hell yes. Why? Next year's QB class is almost at the level of the 2012 QB draft class. The top QB and player is Teddy Bridgewater. This guy has already thrown 9 tds this season. This guy is so big time, that not losing and only being average to good would actually hurt the Vikings future moreso than suffering a minor setback, this year, for a major comeback for years to come. It's time for the Vikings to actually draft a guy who has little character or work ethic concern of being a bust or anything less than advertised plus has elite potential. No more reaching for 2nd rounders in the first, or developing guys whos ceiling is above average. Even if Bridgewater doesn't hit elite status until year 3 or 4, he still will be a dramatic upgrade to Christian. I'm not feeling sorry for a guy who I once supported but still failed to give me Superbowl aspirations even when he played a good game. Ponders good games aren't on the same level as moat other QBs. Ponder throwing 3 TDs in one game is so rare that it's ridiculous. Even if AP is the workhorse, that's no excuse why Ponder shouldn't be slinging it. I'm happy for Ponder that he did what we can only dream of, but I no longer can put Ponders development ahead of the Vikings success.
I regret being against the Suck for Luck campaign and it's biting all of us seeing how good Luck and Rg3 are. I don't wanna make that same mistake twice. Get us a real top flight, elite college qb Vikings and If that means sucking away a season we wont win the Superbowl in anyways than so be it! Get Teddy !
