One Early First Round in May

First i want to start by saying that yes, i know that the word "Purple" in my account name is spelled wrong.

Now that that is over with, The vikings are in an eerily similar place come this may. We are sitting with a semi-early first round pick, that if we so choose it to be, could decide the fate of the Vikings for the next 5 years. I do not need to remind any Vikings fans about Ponder, he is still a very close memory and a laughable remembrance of what was supposed to be the Vikings QBOTF. He was the worst thing that could have happened to the Vikings franchise.

As a fan of the Vikings personally i would of rather had a J. Russel or a R. Leaf, or a guy that flamed out and was obviously not the guy you were looking for. But no. Ponder had to show some signs that he just may be the guy we were looking for, and he surely convinced the coaches and GM of that as well. So we kept him long enough to waste 3 seasons bouncing back and forth between our feelings and emotions about Ponder, when all along, the Ponder naysayers were right. ( I was not one of them, i was rooting for the guy. Always support your team)

So where am i getting with this?

If the Vikings take a QB this May, that man has the power to hamper our franchise for as long as the (insert 1st round QB here) experiment takes. At no.8, all QB's on the board will be a reach, just as Ponder was

Great teams get to where they are by taking the best player available in the draft, regardless of need. Teams and GM's love to trade around to a spot where their NEED matches the BPA while also accumulating picks for the future. It really is that simple. If we stay at no. 8, and the highest player on our board is a LB, than we better take that LB

Another thing i want to say, DON'T LET THE MEDIA DO YOUR RESEARCH FOR YOU. Who among us has actually gone into Johny Football's game tape and broken down his read progressions and footwork? Don't lie. ESPN shows a play of him leaping into the air, bouncing off a player in the pocket, rolling left and hitting a wide open receiver 100 times a day and people say WOW i want him on my team. baloney.

There is a brilliant man named R.C. Fisher who writes articles for a site called

Finding and subscribing to this site is THEE BEST THING that has ever happened to me in terms of draft awareness and knowledge of college prospects, famous(Manziel) or not..

The site has some free articles if you would like to go check them out. This guy is simply amazing, and honestly, i would hire him as a draft consultant or a GM if i was the owner of a NFL team. On the site, he has just started to write articles on 2014 prospects (he will have hundreds by draft time). He started with QBs. If you have never heard of him, JIMMY GAROPOLLO is a guy that he loves, look him up. This site predicted Kuechly being the best thing since sliced bread, and even had some great things to say about H.smith J.Rob M. Kalil and our whole 2012 draft.

This draft is the draft where i put my final grade on Speilman as a drafter. If he reaches for a QB in the first, it will be clearly obvious that he is operating around his own agenda, going after "his guy" attempting to prolong his reign at GM rather than attempting to make this team more competitive at all levels.

I know i may have rambled a little bit there but this was my first fanpost so please dont be harsh. again i urge you to check out CollegeFootballMetrics you will not regret it. Thanks for reading! Skol Vikes
