MOCK DRAFT - UPDATED OPTION 3

QB IN THE THIRD ROUND

So allot has happened over the last week to say the least, setting the stage for an exciting off-season! With all this positive news I updated my 3 mock draft options, with some shake-up in each option.

So check out the updated Option 3 below.

ROUND 1

With the 8th pick in round 1 the Vikings select:

OLB - Khalil Mack, Buffalo - 6’2” 244lbs.

A four year starter, in 2013 Mack had 10.5 sacks, 100 tackles, five forced fumbles, seven passes broken up, three interceptions and 19 tackles for a loss. Mack recieved many awards in 2013 including All-MAC First Team; MAC Defensive Player of the Year; Walter Camp Second Team All-American; and the Jack Lamber 2013 Award Winner.

ROUND 2

With the 8th pick in Round 2 (40th overall), the Vikings select:

DT - DaQuan Jones, Penn State - 6’3” 333lbs.

A two year starter, Jones totaled 53 tackles with 11.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks. Jones recieved several awards in 2013 including All-Big Ten First Team (Coaches) and All-Big Ten Second Team (Media).

ROUND 3

With the 8th pick in Round 3 (72nd overall), the Vikings select:

ILB – Yawin Smallwood, Connecticut - 6'3" 236lbs.

A three year starter, in 2013 Smalwood totaled 118 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, an interception, nine pass breakups, and a pair of forced fumbles. Smallwood was named to the 2013 All-American Athletic Conference First Team (Coaches) and was also named UConn's Defensive Player of the Year.

ROUND 3 (2nd pick in Round 3)

With the 32nd pick in Round 3 (96th overall - Seahawks pick gained from the 2013 Percy Harvin trade), the Vikings select:

QB – Brett Smith, Wyoming - 6'3" 206lbs.

A three year starter, Smith set new career-bests in 2013 with 3,375 passing yards, 62.7% completions (293-for-467) and 29 passing touchdowns. Smith recieved All-Mountain West Honorable Mention (COACHES/MEDIA).

ROUND 4

With the 8th pick in Round 4 (104th overall), the Vikings select:

OG – Brandon Linder, Miami - 6’5” 312lbs.

Linder had a solid senior season and proved to be a reliable pass protector and opened up holes for the ground game. Linder was named a Second-Team All-ACC selection in 2013.

ROUND 5

With the 8th pick in Round 5 (136th overall), the Vikings select:

CB - Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Nebraska - 6'2" 214lbs.

A two year starter, he totaled 35 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 11 pass breakups. He was named to the 2013 All-Big Ten Second Team (Coaches and Media).

ROUND 6

With the 8th pick in Round 6 (168th overall), the Vikings select:

DE – Ben Gardner, Stanford - 6'4" 275lbs.

A three year starter, Gardner was playing well in 2013 before a torn pectoral muscle ended his season. The injury is not major and he is slated to have a full recovery and be ready for the combines and pro-day. Prior to the injury Gardner totaled 19 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. In 2012 he totaled 49 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks, five passes batted and a forced fumble. Even though Gardner only played in 8 games in 2013 he was selected to the All-PAC-12 First Team (Coaches).

ROUND 7

With the 8th pick in Round 7 (200th overall), the Vikings select:

SS - Alden Darby, Arizona State - 5’11” 195lbs.

A three year starter, in 2013 Darby had 66 tackles, two interceptions, and eight passes broken up. Darby was named to the 2013 All-PAC 12 First Team (Coaches).

So that's my updated Mock Draft Option 3, showing us taking a QB in Round 3.
