Should we trade draft picks for some teams 1st round pick next year?

What do you guys think about trading draft picks for some teams 1st round pick next year?

I’ve been reading other Vikings fans comments/ concerns about there not being a Quarterback of the future in this draft. I would rather us not try to take the left over QB with our 1st pick in the draft. If we do believe there is a QB in this draft, then we need to make the necessary trades to get him. If we don’t see our Quarterback of the future, then we need to setup ourselves the best we can for next years draft.

Here is a possible trade scenario with the New York Giants:

(I used http://walterfootball.com/draftchart.php)

Giants would get:

2014- 1st Round (8th)

2014- 2nd Round (40th)

2015- 2nd Round (48th) * I valued this 2015 pick as the 16th pick.

2015- 4th Round (104th) * I valued this 2015 pick as the 16th pick.

Vikings would get:

2014- 1st Round (12th)

2015-1st Round (16th) * I valued this 2015 pick as the 16th pick.

The benefits of doing a trade such as this is that it will pretty much give us a lock on a top QB in the 2015 draft such as Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Brett Hundley and Bryce Petty. This is just another option to think about. I don’t want to draft a QB, just to draft a QB. How we use our draft picks this year depends on whom we Re-sign and pick up in Free Agency.

Re-sign:

-Matt Cassell, Everson Griffen, J’Marcus Webb, Fred Evans, Chris Cook

Free Agency:

$34.8 million

-Jon Asamoah- OG, Captain Munnerlyn- CB, Taylor Mays- S, Vincent Rey- LB

Given how much cap space we have, if we can afford a high caliber safety such as Jarius Byrd then we should sign him instead of Taylor Mays.

Draft:

1st Round (12th)- Louis Nix, DT, Notre Dame

This might be a little high for Nix by the time the draft comes around but I can see Zimmer wanting Nix to be the centerpiece of our defense. I can see Chicago wanting to draft him with the 14th pick. If Anthony Barr slips to us then I would draft him instead.

3rd Round (8th) – Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois

I know that I said we would draft a QB in the 1st round in the 2015 draft, but I believe he is great value here. Best-case scenario, we find our QB of the future and have two 1st round picks in 2015. Worst-case scenario, we waste our 3rd round pick on a cheap backup QB, but at least we don’t push the whole franchise back a few more years by choosing a QB that isn’t our top valued QB. I can see Garoppolo moving into the 2nd round by May. Other options might be Loucheiz Purifoy or Shayne Skov.

3rd Round (32nd) – Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

I really like his up side. He is good in run support and has really good instincts. Other options might be Jackson Jeffcoat or Tre Mason.

4th Round (8th) – Jimmie Ward, S, Northern Illinois

5th Round (8th) – Chris Watt, OG, Notre Dame

6th Round (8th) – Aaron Lynch, DE, South Florida

7th Round (8th) – DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville

That concludes my first post. Please share your comments! I’m just a huge fan and want to look at every possible option.
