Final play at the Metrodome? Matt Cassel takes a knee at the Lions 16 yard line, solidifying a 14-13 victory over the 7-8 Lions. The final TD? An eight yard pass from Matt Cassel to Pro-Bowl return-man, Cordarelle Patterson, capping a 2 TD performance with 136 all-purpose yards. The final sack? Everson Griffen taking down Matthew Stafford for a loss of 13 yards, throwing him down at his own goal-line. December 29th, 2013 was the last time football will ever be played in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
The Metrodome. A word that for many Vikings fans is synonymous with the many memories that occurred in this building. A building with the longest run, a 99 yarder by Tony Dorsett, the longest pass, a 99 yarder from Gus Frerotte to Bernard Berrian, and the only stadium to feature, not one but two 109 yard plays. Whether the memories you have of the Metrodome include the heart-breaker of the 1998 season, or the thriller of Adrian Peterson's record setting season, I think we can all agree that this stadium holds many memories.
There have been records set in the Metrodome like no other. When you look at 2007, when Adrian Peterson ran on the Chargers for 297 yards, an NFL single game record, there was yet another record broken, as Antoine Cromartie ran back a missed FG 109 yards for the TD. A number no one has been able to touch, until Cordarelle Patterson took a kick-off to the house from 9 yards deep. The greats that have worn the purple-and-gold in this stadium all have there own stories to tell, but there are memories that go beyond individual players.
What games stick out in your memory? Is it Week 17, 2012? Week 3, 2009? The Superbowl that was held in this building?? Though we have watched things collapse in the Metrodome, literally and figuratively, we have watched numerous outstanding victories, and the memories that the building holds will outlast the destruction of the building.
What memories do you hold? Which games have you attended? I have only ever been to one game at the Metrodome, but it was an iconic one, as it was this past Sunday against the Lions. The memories that one game alone can hold is plenty enough. But I want to hear from the DN community. What iconic games have you attended? What memories do you have?
