10 Positives to take away from the Buffalo loss

1. The Vikings were able to run on the #1 run D with relative ease.

The Vikings racked up 158 yards on 29 carries for a 5.4 average. The Bills had been giving up an average of 2.8 yards per carry and 67.5 yards per game. Jerick McKinnon had 103 yards, and lots of success no matter where he is running.

2. The Vikings D had four turnovers, including three fumble recoveries

The Vikings came into the game without a fumble recovery on the year. They forced three this game, and also picked off Kyle Orton. They get one more turnover on one of Orton's bad passes, they win this game, no question.

3. The Vikings O-line somehow managed to survive losing both their starting center and their backup right guard.

Though Sully and Ducasse left in the first half, Mike Harris and Joe Berger did a fair job against what many considered just as good of a line as the one we faced Lions. There are still issues in regards to protection against stunts and other things, but 5 sacks against this line isn't that bad.

4. Teddy Bridgewater threw his first TD pass as an NFL QB

He connected with Patterson early in the second quarter. After throwing interceptions on each of the last two drives, Teddy took the Vikings on a 60 yard drive and threw a screen to Patterson, and Patterson did the rest.

5. The Vikings didn't give up a first quarter TD

The Vikings had given up a first quarter TD in each of the last five games. They didn't today, and it took a Teddy Bridgewater interception to set the Bills up on a TD drive midway through the second quarter.

6. Robert Blanton had what was undoubtedly his best game this season

He had six tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Both the interception and the fumble recovery were his firsts.

7. Anthony Barr is a goddamn stud.

He absolutely flattened an offensive lineman, was all over the field making plays, recovered two fumbles, made ten tackles (eight solo), broke up a pass, and had a tackle for loss. He is definitely showing up and having a great rookie season.

8. According to stats, the Vikings gave up the third-most yards of the season and only gave up 17 points.

If the Vikings give up over 370 yards last season, it usually accompanied giving up around 30 points. The Vikings battled really well today, and they nearly won.

9. Blair Walsh hit a 33 yard, 40 yard, and a 55 yard FG

He might end up being one of Rick Speilman's best-ever draft picks. He was almost certainly the best kicker in the NFL in 2012, he did fairly well in 2013 considering the injury he apparently had in his plant leg, and has continued to hit 50+ yard FG's with reckless skill.

10. The Vikings still haven't given up 300 yards of passing to a QB this year

They gave up 7 games of 300 yards to QB's last year. Their D has done a good job of improving this year, and have allowed only 214 yards per game passing (ranked 6th in the NFL). Zimmer has done a good job of improving the Vikings D, and it should only continue to improve as the Vikings continue to find players that fit better into his system.
