I decided to try out the draft simulator that was posted on here a few days ago. I only went 4 rounds because I'm not to familiar with a lot of late round prospects and usually everything after the 4th round is just BPA.
Round 1 (8): CJ Mosley LB
The main reason I picked Mosley at #8 is because I believe the Vikings need a quarterback of the defense. He has a lot of flexibility being able to play inside and outside. If I were Rick, I would trade back to 13-16 if he would still be there. I would have really liked to pick up another 3rd and use that to move up with one of our next 2 picks.
Round 2 (40): Jimmy Garoppolo QB
The Vikings are desperate for a QB. I know using the 40th pick in the draft on Jimmy may be a reach, but I wouldn't have selected him until late 2nd if I was able to receive another pick. He has good mechanics with a quick release. I think Norv will be able to develop him well where he could be our franchise QB.
Round 3 (72): Stanley Jean-Baptise CB
There has been a lot of good things about him from the Senior Bowl which is the reason why I took him instead of a different CB. Some scouts say he reminds them of Richard Sherman, but I don't know how true that really is. He would be a good fit opposite Rhodes. I see the Vikes resigning Cook to a 1 or 2 yr deal and getting a rotation with these two.
Round 3 (96): Dakota Dozier G
Honestly, I don't know anything of him. I thought we needed to add a starter or depth to our guard position. He was the top rated guard at this point so I thought what the hell. I also looked at safety but thought taking a guard would be the best route.
Round 4 (107): Jackson Jeffcoat DE
With uncertainty surrounding our DE position, I thought it would be wise to add some depth. I think the Vikes are going to resign Griffen, but if he's asking too much, I could see them going after Michael Johnson and Greg Hardy in FA.
Many of you are probably wondering why I didn't select a nose tackle. I believe that position will be addressed in FA and if not, McCullers might be available in the 5th (he was in this simulator). If CB is addressed, then I wouldn't draft Baptise and grab a NT in the 3rd or 4th.
One surprise I noticed in the draft was Lamarcus Joyner was drafted with the 9th overall pick. I thought he graded out as a 2nd or 3rd round prospect but I could be wrong.
