We have an Offensive Coordinator that we all seem to have embraced. And his track record backs up that confidence that we have in him. Most new offensive coaches like to bring in a signal caller that knows their system to at minimum be able to help them in the meeting room and practice field.
I know that this may come across as sacrilege due to our love affair with Matt Cassel, but Matt is gone and hasn’t worked with Norv in the past. Based on Ponder’s contract situation and our team’s need to maximize our salary cap, I don’t see him going anywhere. It appears to be a foregone conclusion that we are drafting a QB in the upcoming draft. That leaves us in the position to bring in a free agent veteran that has experience with and in Norv’s offensive system.
I fully expect one of those two to be signed by our Vikings shortly after the start of free agency. Both are in their 30’s with Hill being 34 years old. The advantage that Whitehurst has is multiple years in Turner’s system and being a couple years younger.
Love to know your thoughts on this matter.
