Why Christian Ponder needs to be released

Well everyone, the Ponder experiment failed... Badly. It got really old seeing Ponder make stupid mistakes play after play that would eventually cost the Vikings so many close games. I think we all got fed up with it, some of us more then others, and it is time to say goodbye.

Now don't get me wrong, Christian Ponder is a class act. He stunk it up. He took the hits from the media and the fans (us). And he was still able to remain composed through out all of it, even if he and Leslie Frazier sounded like a broken record after every single loss. High character guy. But it is unfortunate that you don't win games with character. You win with performance, which is exactly what Ponder could never do on a consistent basis.

So now that Leslie Frazier and his man crush on Christian Ponder is gone, I envision Mike Zimmer will have no problem shredding Ponder's contract up. Mike Zimmer has probably heard from various people within the Vikings organization (Zygi Wilf, Rick Spielman, Greg Jennings and Viking fans) that they would really appreciate it if he would just kick Ponder out the door. At this point, I really don't even want Ponder as a backup QB. I don't really care what his cap hit is (I think it's around $3 million or so, which the Vikings could easily afford) or how much the Vikings could save if they kept him around. The Vikings brought in Zimmer for a reason, and that was to get a fresh start. And the #1 priority on that list should be the release of Christian Ponder.
