Mak07's Offseason Plan #2 (New and Improved)

After thinking about my last mock draft/offseason, I decided I needed to tweak some things. Here it goes:
Cap Space: 26.7 mil

Free Agents kept: Chris Cook (2 year/ 5 million), JaMarcus Webb (2 year/2 million), Marcus Sherels (2 year/3 million), Kevin Williams (1 year/4 million)

Total Cap Space left: 17.7 million

Players not brought back: Everson Griffin, Jared Allen, Joe Webb, Toby Gerhart, Matt Asiata, Josh Freeman, Marvin Mitchell, Larry Dean, Fred Evans, Jerome Simpson, Joe Berger, Matt Cassel

Players under contract that will be cut: Shaun Prater, Robert Steeples, Christian Ballard, LeTroy Guion, Erin Henderson, Mike Remmers, Rodney Smith, John Carlson

Money Saved: 13 million

Total Money to spend: 30.7 million

Now Pre-draft moves: re-sign Brandon Fusco (5 years/22.5 million) (cap hit ~ 5 million)

Sign DE Michael Johnson (5 year/45 million) (cap hit ~ 10 million)

Sign CB Alterraun Verner (5 year/32.5 million) (cap hit ~ 7 million)

Sign OG Travelle Wharton (Car) (3 year/13 million) (cap hit ~ 5 million)

Sign LB Vincent Rey (Cinci) (2 years/6 million (cap hit ~3 million)

Remaining Cap Space- Not Much

Now it's time for the draft. The only QB I think is worth the #8 pick is Johnny Football, and he'll be gone. I don't want Teddy B (his hands measured in VERY small, he's too skinny, etc) Blake Bortles is a big question mark for me, and Derek Carr is a 2nd round prospect (IMO)

Round 1, Pick 8- Khalil Mack, LB/DE Can rotate in with Johnson, Robison, and also play some OLB for Zimmer. Very high upside, and I think he'll put it together and be a pro bowler in this league. I have him higher than Mosely now (and by about 7 picks)

Round 2, Pick 8- Louis Nix, NT. I believe he will fall like a brick because of health concerns. If he's available at 40, we should take him.

Both of our 3rd rounders to the Dallas Cowboys for their 2nd round pick (#16)

Round 2, Pick 16- Jimmy Garoppolo, QB. I believe this kid will make something of himself if he's in the right situation. He has the quickest release in the draft, has an above average arm, and is supposedly a quick learner.

Round 4, Pick 8- Keith McGill, CB Utah

Round 5, Pick 8- Aaron Murray, QB Georgia

Round 6, Pick 8- Jerick McKinnon RB Georgia Southern

Round 7, Pick 8- Tyler Larsen, C Utah State

Final Roster of:

QB: Ponder/Garoppolo/Murray (Let them battle it out. Have NORV work with them exclusively some days.)

RB: Peterson/McKinnon/Line

WR: Jennings/Patterson/Wright/Childs/Thielen

T: Kalil/Loadholt/Webb

G: Fusco/Wharton/Baca

C: Sullivan/Loeffler/Larson

TE: Rudolph/Ford/Ellison

FB: Felton/Ellison/Line

DE: Robison/Johnson/Mack

DT: Williams/Floyd/Nix/Baker

CB: Verner/Rhodes/Cook/Sherels/Robinson/McGill

S: Smith/Sanford/Raymond/Sendejo

LB: Greenway/Cole/Rey/Hodges/Mack/Mauti

P: Locke

K: Walsh

What do you all think? I had Decker in my last one, but that did seem a bit unrealistic. I thought about adding Miles Austin, who will get cut, and be had for cheap. If he passes the physical, he's a good pick-up for us. The biggest question mark is QB, but we'd have 3 young guys there that would all work exclusively with Norv Turner to see what we could do with them. It is possible that Ponder would start the year as our starting QB, and I know that frustrates many of you, but I think this would be a good move for our long-term success. Get a young QB we can mold into what we want. Jimmy G and Aaron Murray both have been successful and have good skill sets. Let the three of them battle it out and let's see what happens.
