Building a bridge over rough waters

I have been following the Daily Norseman for a while and I have finally gotten the courage to make a post I can call my own. Because this is my first post, I would suggest that maybe you take this with a grain of salt. I have been watching the Vikes for a couple of years but only recently over the past 2 years have I really been following more than the average fan. I am going to make a couple of points about the quarterbacks in the draft this year and if some of you change your mind or at least consider it then I will consider my post a success.

I would like to start by asking a couple questions. Even though we have signed a veteran QB in Cassel, what do you think is going to happen when his two years are up? Do you think that he is going to do really well for two years and then re-sign with the Vikings, or more likely do you think that he will do OK and then look elsewhere or retire. I would think the latter of the two because hopefully we would have a new starter at that point. Now that means that we have two years of a solid starter to groom our QBOTF before the unknown. This also means that if we wait until next year to draft a QBOTF then we will only have one year before the unknown.

For my next point I am going to ask another question. Which draft pick do you want the vikings to have next year? If your answer is anything other than the very last pick in the draft, I'm not quite sure I want to be a part of this community (just kidding). So if we do even slightly better next year that will start moving us down the draft board exponentially and pushing us even farther away from the best QB's available. What I am trying to say is, it is a lot easier to move up 6 picks than it is to move up 26 picks(I know that's optimistic).

The question we need to ask ourselves in the end is not whether we should move up (or down) in the draft, but which QB we want. If the Norveman wants Bridgewater then the Vikes should do whatever humanly possible to get him. The Norveman probably knows what he is looking for and honestly I don't think we are that many pieces away from a playoff team. I would prefer to have the QB whisperer get to work on the QBOTF ASAP seeing as how that is the most important position on the team and it would be a lot easier to build around a QB sooner than later now that we are making all these drastic changes.

This is of course only my current sentiment and if the big heads on top think there will be OUR QB at 8 then we should just stay there. This is completely different from the thinking that ONE of the big three will be available at 8, or that someone else we want will be available in the second round. If the Norveman really likes Jimmy then Jimmy it is, and if the Norveman wants XYZ then that should be our first priority. Just in case you are worried about another Ponder situation, they are not going to make that mistake again. I guarantee it or your money back.
