If we're all reading the tea leaves correctly (and certainly this time of year those things are muddy and/or frozen around the country) it seems like Johnny Manziel's draft "stock" is dropping, enough that he might actually be there when the Vikings pick at #8.
Now, before we hired Norv, I'd have said I think Manziel would be a great fit for the Vikings. Can you imagine a spread / option offense with Manziel, AP, Jennings, Patterson, Simpson, Wright, and Rudolph? It boggles the mind. But Norv's just not a spread / option kind of OC, and you don't just hire a guy like Norv Turner and then tell him to do something different. Maybe he's more wiley than we give him credit for, but he's been doing his Air Coryell thing a long time, I doubt that tiger will change his stripes. Also, he's the one helping make the decisions on the QB, not the other way around.
So if JFF isn't the answer for the Vikes/Norv/Air Coryell, where would he fit well?
And who would fit the Air Coryell better than Philly's 6'6 statue (ok, maybe he's not that bad) of a pocket passer Nick Foles?
Yes, this plan is coming together. Slick Rick, get on the phone and start talking trade. Do we need to sweeten the pot with a mid-round pick? Sure, maybe Seattle's third. I'd make that trade every day of the week. Nick has done his NFL seasoning and he's ready to start now, ensuring we're not wasting more of AP's prime. He's proven he can get it done, unlike the other Air Coryell - style passers in the draft like Carr, Bortles, or Mettenberger. And he's cheap! He's getting paid like $500k/yr.
Thoughts? Please someone tell me why I'm nuts.
