Vikings Daily Mock 3.27

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

I like to do mocks so I am going to try and put one up daily just for the heck of it. I think the Vikings can go in any direction they like. They can go QB early or later. Either way it is going to be a good draft.

I use the http://fanspeak.com/ontheclock/ site to do the draft.  They have a premium feature that allows for trades and they are more reasonable than the ones at first-pick.com.  They have 3 big boards you can choose to use for the player rankings (fanspeak, walterfootball, & optimumscouting).

In this mock I used the walterfootball big board.

1st trade - 1.8 to the Rams for 1.13 &  2.12
2nd trade - 1.13 to the Jets for 1.18 & 3.16
3rd trade - 2.12 to the Jets for 2.17 & 4.4
4th trade - 2.8 & 6.8 to the Raiders for 2.4
5th trade - 3.8 to the Cowboys for 3.14 & 5.16
6th trade - 2015 7th to the 49ers for 7.27

After the mock I posted yesterday, I took some comments into consideration.  Also, how the draft went determined the selections too. I forgot to grab all the picks but will do so going forward.

Obviously, QB is the most pressing need for the Vikings.  I cannot even begin to debate a person who believes otherwise.  That does not mean you should "reach" for a QB but I really do not know what that means to be honest.  I know what people think it means but I wonder if teams feel that way.  If you get the guy you want and believe he can lead your team then that is all that matters.

I had a choice between Manziel and Bridgewater.  I went with Teddy.  Also, Arizona has been selecting a QB in these drafts quite often.  Plus, Cleveland did not take a QB at #4.  Justin Gilbert and CJ Mosley were also available.  It was a tough call because I really could have went with either defender (Mosley being the likely pick) but I figured both QBs would be gone by the 2nd round or where it was close enough to trade up.

The debate between Manziel and Teddy B would be a good one for sure.

I went with Roby in the second round but almost took Stephon Tuitt instead.  I just think getting another good corner (to me at least) is something the team needs.  Hageman was gone too.

I picked Gabe Jackson because of the feedback from the mock in yesterday's open thread.  The Vikings need a guard badly.  It is not really Spielman's style to grab them early but maybe he just never had one that was worth it in the past and there could have been other needs he wanted to take care of first.  Guards usually can be found in the mid rounds as well.  I am not sure of this pick.

Demarcus Lawrence is an interesting player who I am not totally sure how the Vikings would put to use.  I am thinking he can be an OLB and not a DE.  If anyone can coach him up it has to be Zimmer.

Bucannon is a hard hitter and a favorite of mine all year.  The Vikings can definitely upgrade the spot opposite Smith.  The current players are OK but you cannot get complacent and settle.

I like Sims as a back because he can catch the ball well.

Urban is a player that could be considered to be flying under the radar but at 6'7" 295 he fits the profile of the big defensive ends that Zimmer likes.  I think he could eventually move inside to tackle.

Quarles is another defensive tackle that I like.  I think the Vikings need MOAR defensive linemen.

Henderson was a surprise for me but I think it is good value in the 4th.  He may or may not pan out but he has tons of talent.  The Vikings need someone to backup the tackle spots and maybe Henderson can be that player.  I envision him taking over for Loadholt by year 3 (which is when I will probably be advocating cutting or trading Loadholt because of his salary).

I think Coleman has the potential to be pretty good and he is a huge red zone target.  I thought he was a much higher pick heading into the season but his season did not go as well as many hoped.  The QB situation at Rutgers was not too good either.

I think Barrow in the 5th is a decent pick.  He is considered good in coverage and maybe can start one day.

Colvin in the 7th could be a steal.  he is likely to be on IR all season recovering from his ACL injury that he suffered at the Senior Bowl. Sure it is a throw away pick but the Vikings have missed on 7th rounders lately (Guyton, Bond, Dawkins).

Millard is another player who suffered an ACL tear in October.  He may not be able to play next year either.  He should be fully recovered by September.  I like him as a FB/HB.  He did a lot for Oklahoma.

Well there you have it.
