Vikings Sign Two Players

Brace Hemmelgarn-US PRESSWIRE

An old face and a new face join the VIkings

Earlier today, the Vikings announced a couple of roster moves, and it involved two free agent signings.

The first one was former Viking and Jacksonville Jaguar Allen Reisner, a tight end.  If you'll remember, Reisner, a University of Iowa product, was viewed as nothing more than a training camp body when he was signed as an undrafted free agent after the 2011 draft.

But somebody who covered training camp that year predicted that Reisner would make the final 53 man roster, going against the regular Vikings beat writers in predicting the final 53 man roster.

That dude is a friggin' genius, man. Or alternatively, the blind squirrel finally found a nut.  You be the judge.

Even though Reisner made the team, he didn't make it through the whole season, getting cut after only six games.  In 2012, he was with both the Vikings and the Jags, and was out of football in 2013.

The other signing is the linebacker equivalent of Reisner, Terrell Manning.  Manning, a linebacker, was a fifth round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers (spit spit) in 2012, played five games, and then moved on to the San Diego Chargers for the 2012 season, appearing in one game.

I don't see either of these moves as earth shattering, but I do like the fact that the Vikings are going to bring in anyone and everyone to compete and make people earn their jobs.  Having guys with previous NFL experience helps set that competitive attitude, and yes, although the Vikings are just like any other team when it comes to off-season signings, it seemed that in recent seasons the roster was about 85-90% set heading into training camp based on the previous philosophies.

I think, based on what we've seen this off-season, everyone not named Adrian Peterson is going to be fighting for their job, and I can't wait to see how it all unfolds.
