This posting includes Option 1 of 3 Mocks that I have developed. My strategy with the 3 Mock Drafts is to take a look at how it may play out with the Vikings drafting a QB in the first, second, and then third round.

I used typical draft-site resources to do the research on the picks including the player draftpool and the projected rounds in which they will potentially be available (e.g.,,,, and the draft tracker on I also based the picks on what seems to be the concensus in regards to our most pressing team needs in consideration of the combine, pro-days, and free agency activity.

So here we go, Mock Draft Option 1..............."QB in the First" is below.

With the 8th pick in round 1 the Vikings select:

QB - Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M - 6'0" 207lbs.

A two-year starter, Manziel completed 69 percent of his passes in 2013 for 3,732 yards with 33 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He ran for 846 yards (686 net) with eight scores. Manziel was a 2013 All-SEC First Team selection at QB.

There's been allot of speculation recently that one of the top 3 rated QB's could possibly slip to the Vikings at the #8 slot in Round 1. Which one that may be is anyone's guess. In this mock I chose Johnny Football. He sure would add a spark that we haven't seen since Favre was here, but I could just as easily see us grabbing Bridgewater and or Bortles if they are available as well. Carr is still in the discussion but he comes in as a possible reach with the 1.8 pick from what I've seen recently.

With the 8th pick in Round 2 (40th overall), the Vikings select:

OLB - Kyle Van Noy, BYU - 6'3" 243lbs.

Van Noy is a dual threat on the outside. He recorded 68 tackles with 17.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks, seven passes batted and two interceptions in 2013. He was named the 2013 FBS Independant Defensive Player of the Year, also to the FBS All-Independant First Team, and Walter Camp Second Team All-American.

With the 8th pick in Round 3 (72nd overall), the Vikings select:

ILB - Chris Borland, Wisconsin - 5’11" 248lbs.

Borland totalled 112 tackles with 8.5 tackles for a loss, two passes broken up, two forced fumbles and four sacks in 2013. He was named to the 2013 All-Big Ten First Team.

ROUND 3 (2nd pick in Round 3)

With the 32nd pick in Round 3 (96th overall - Seahawks pick gained from the 2013 Percy Harvin trade), the Vikings select:

S - Terrence Brooks, Florida State - 5'11" 198lbs.

Brooks had 56 tackles with two interceptions, five passes broken up and two forced fumbles in 2013. He was voted to the 2013 All-ACC First Team by the Coaches (voted to Second team by the Media).

With the 8th pick in Round 4 (108th overall), the Vikings select:

Gaines had 68 tackles with five interceptions and three passes defended in 2013. He was selected to the 2013 All-SEC First Team.

With the 8th pick in Round 5 (148th overall), the Vikings select:

OG - Chris Watt, Notre Dame - 6'3" 317lbs.

A three year starter, Watt is known for his toughness and blue-collar work ethic. He was selected to the 2013 FBS All-Independant First Team.

With the 8th pick in Round 6 (184th overall), the Vikings select:

RB – De’Anthony Thomas, Oregon - 5'9" 174lbs.

In 2013, Thomas had 96 carries for 594 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had 22 receptions for 246 yards and a score. Thomas sat out 4 games in 2013 with an ankle injury. He is an explosive change of pace back that could potentially line up in the slot as well.

With the 8th pick in Round 7 (223th overall), the Vikings select:

WR – Cody Hoffman, BYU - 6'4" 223lbs.

An experienced four year starter, Hoffman totalled 57 receptions for 894 yards and five touchdowns in 2013. He is a big outside the numbers possession reciever.

So that's Mock Draft Option 1, showing us taking a QB in Round 1 as well as several other obvious needs and value picks throughout each of the seven rounds.

Stay tuned for mock options 2 and 3.
