Jean spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Houston Texans, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic University after the 2011 NFL Draft. To say he's played sparingly over the past three years would be an understatement, as his career numbers for the last three seasons account for ten catches, 186 yards, and a touchdown. He spent the entire 2011 season on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury. In 2012 he had six catches for 151 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown reception, and had four catches for 35 yards in 2013. He was a restricted free agent, but did not receive a tender offer from the Texans.
Jean has decent size at 6'3" and 210 pounds, and will be competing for a spot at the bottom of the receiver depth chart when the Vikings head to camp this year. He may also have to compete for a spot on special teams, though his statistics don't show any kick or punt returns over his NFL career.
It's not a huge signing, but it shows that Rick Spielman is definitely exhausting every avenue in his attempts to improve the Minnesota Vikings' roster going into training camp.
