*All hell breaks loose"
We have debated ad nauseam about why the Vikings picked Ponder where they did, but one thing I think we can all agree on is that the majority of the Vikings fan base were shocked at first, but then quite angry that the Vikings used the 12th overall pick on a guy that was considered a 2nd round prospect....
That pick has had some people calling for GM Rick Spielman's head, saying that he set the franchise back several years by reaching for Christian Ponder. However, as the main guys here at DN have pointed out, since that pick, Spielman has put together some very impressive drafts, coming away with 7 first round picks in the last 3 years, without mortgaging the team's future to do so.....
Which brings us to the 2014 draft:
"With the 32nd pick in the 2014 NFL draft, the Minnesota Vikings select..... Teddy Bridgewater, Quarterback, University of Louisville."
*All hell breaks loose" - but in a good way!
Judging by the outpouring of shock, joy and relief from the majority of the Vikings fan base in the last week, I would say that people are very supportive of the selection (especially at the end of the 1st round)?
However, people are saying that if Bridgewater doesn't go on to be a success, then Spielman will be fired....
I have to ask - why?
He has shown he is one of the best drafting GM's in the league, he has overseen an overhaul of the entire team in the last 3 seasons, injecting the team with young, talented players through the draft, and savvy FA signings including Jennings, Felton, Munnerlyn etc...... And on top of that, he selected the QB that the majority of Vikings fans were crying out for?
The poll asks who your number 1 choice at QB in the 2014 draft, the one that you wanted to be a Viking more than any other QB available. I have a feeling, most of you will say Bridgewater.
And I also ask; If Teddy is a flop - do you think Spielman deserves to be fired for missing on another QB?
