Every analyst say the Vikings need to draft a QB in the 2014 draft. Majority believe the Turners are QB gurus which will help them pick the prototypical QB that can excel in their current offensive system. Majority may agree Vikings are hesitate on drafting a QB so high due to the result of drafting Ponder in 2011. But what if the Turners can fix Ponder? Allow Cassel to be the bridge while Ponder observes from the bench for two years. We all know Ponder was rushed in his rookie year too quick. The left tackle was an issue as well as the guard position, and the lack of quality receivers for Ponder somewhat hindered him from excelling. You can even put some of the blame on Musgrave. Musgrave small playbook, inability to call plays down the field or spread the ball around, and the digress of Ponder was clearly evident. People forget sometimes players aren't finished products entering the NFL, and great coaching is essential to improving a player. Apart from the Ponder pick, Spielman has excelled in the draft. All you have to do is look at his track record. But the owner of the Vikings understands there might be a small window of having the dominance of Adrian Peterson, so the possibility of drafting another bust QB can hang Spielman. Instead of spending a 1st or 2nd round draft pick on a QB, maybe Vikings should decide if the Turners can turn Ponder's weakness into his strengths. Ponder isn't a terrible QB. As of now, he serves best as a backup QB. If Ponder puts his maximum effort in the two years under the Turners, we can have our QB without spending another draft pick on a QB. How many analyst can say we have a Manning, Rodgers (who spent three years under Farve), Luck, RG III, or a Brees in this year's draft? I don't care what anyone said about Bridgewater after his pro day. If his tape says he can excel right now in an NFL offense, then he is the closest thing to a day one starting QB. There will always be flaws in a players' game, especially a QB because they are coming from the college level (which the talent isn't more developed than the NFL players already in the league). Here is the bottom line. Observing from the bench for two years, can the Turners mold Ponder into a great QB? Does Ponder have the will and accountability to aboard this project? Do the owner of the Vikings has the patience of waiting for a QB to emerge two years down the road? Can Spielman afford drafting another QB high in the draft which can cost him his job if the player turns out to be a bust?
