As we have entered the second stage of NFL purgatory I have some non Viking related news for you today. Vince Young has retired from the NFL after recently being released from the Cleveland Browns. Young reportedly said he will not return to the NFL unless he is offered a guaranteed contract. This is the same guy who recently filed for bankruptcy after a rookie deal worth approximately $26,000,000. I used to work for a financial services company and my boss always told me that the best clients to have were professional athletes because they had the most money and no idea what to do with it. Young could still potentially make around a million dollars a year while playing on a practice squad or work hard enough to at least be a third stringer on a terrible team. I remember watching Vince in the Rose Bowl against USC in the closing seconds as he scrambled right to the end zone. I thought wow this guy is going to be a great NFL talent. And he was. Young earned Rookie of the Year honors and was a two-time Pro Bowler. However after falling out with his coach Jeff Fisher he never regained his form. Every man has a right to retire from a vicious game but when someone has a great opportunity that millions of others would do anything for it just seems like a huge waste of talent. Most of us could work every day just as hard as these guys and and would never be a professional athlete simply because we don't have the God given talents. Sad to see guys like him throw it all away.
