So, recently the Rich Eisen Podcast did a best of episode and they were talking about how Alec Baldwin surprised them in his fan hood. He wanted to catch a pass from Roger Staubach so bad he was willing to fly to a destination, pay for his hotel, and cut a check for 50 grand to a charity that was putting on a football game with local celebs, as opposed to the normal star treatment he gets of paid hotel, paid appearance and just stand there and say something nice. Chris Law and Chris Brockman (Rich was on vacation) started discussing which QB would you do that for if you had the money.
So this made me think about this as a Vikings fan. Now, I guess I should preface this with I'm only 26, and when I got big into football it was Jeff George, Brad Johnson, Randall Cunningham and Daunte Culpepper. Even if I had the money, I'm not sure I would want to catch a pass from any of those guys that badly. I'm not old enough to truly remember Warren Moon or have watched the great Tark. George didn't seem that great, Johnson was good but not special to me, Cunningham only had one good year (but MAN, that was a fantastic year!), and the way Pep forced his way out left me pretty bitter on him. Does anyone feel differently? I wish I could have seen Tark in his day, because this answer would probably be much easier to me. Honestly, if I had to pick one I would probably lean towards Cunningham, but his lack of tenure almost makes me want to say Johnson or Culpepper. Anyone feel differently? Have any great stories about old Vikings QBs? Who would like to educate a youngster like me on past QB greats of in that magnificent dark purple?
