A quick comment on Cassel's injury in KC and subsequent boo-ing

This topic has come up a bit in the comments lately, justifying/unjustifying poor fan behavior because the KC fans booed Matt Cassel when he was carried off the field when he was injured. WHAT COULD BE WORSE THAN THAT!

(dang comments will ban you for even writing about a hope of such a thing! (cool move by the site...if I do say so.)) Moving on!

I don't know the play, (haven't looked it up - 'cause, why?) And I don't know the actual truth. But I do know a guy who was at that game in KC, and he's a pretty big football fan. (A NY Giants guy going to KC games because he lives there, and says they're awesome.)

Anyhoo, he told me this right after the blow-up in the media that the fans there booed Cassel as he was taken off the field. I certainly didn't care at the time, (I still, really don't) but he said this unprompted in a conversation,

"They were showing replays in the stadium of the play that just happened - the one where Cassel got hurt, and it was obvious the team had a first down."

Now I don't know if it was a 3rd down play, but that's what I'm guessing. Since it was years ago, and a game I didn't watch, a team I don't care about...and from a conversation I didn't even know I should pay attention to at the time, you can understand I don't want to be too specific. The play might have even gone to an under the hood call, (I don't know, and still don't care) but the call took some time, and when the refs made the call that KC had not made the 1st down, the whole stadium booed.

That was the exact moment that Cassel was picked up, and carried off the field.

So it seemed like they were booing the Cassel, but they were just booing a poorly timed call, that screwed their team, just after MC just gave his damn-all to get a 1st (or some kind of pretty good play.)

For this particular story, I really don't care enough to investigate the truth...it doesn't matter that much to me either way. But I trust my guy (who told me the story) at that moment, for not dropping some lame excuse for booing some injured player off the field. Who the hell would do that? His story makes a lot more sense than anything else I've read about it.

If you picture that moment, watching the Vikes, at the game, four beers deep...and the timing is just a little off, you could easily find yourself in the same damn predicament. Not one of you...even the most ravenous of Anti-Packer-Vikes-fans would do that to Rogers! Why would anyone in the stands do that to someone on their own squad?

Like I mentioned earlier...I don't know the truth. But anytime someone brings this up in the comments it's already too late to reply (I'm on the West Coast - and busy out here!). But I always think to myself, "They were booing not getting a first down, not MC."

Just wanted to make sure you guys had some perspective on that whole thing. (I don't have much)

I'll show myself out.

...but since I'm right here,

anyone want a really cheap used robot?
